That's My Take | |||||||||
My thoughts on the subject of Buffy & Angel |
Buffy 1-17-03 Okay, I'm stupid. Cassie died of natural causes - so there goes my earlier theory about what the First can take form of. Well, that just makes it more scary - cause you never know what apparition is real. But I think it was Joyce telling Dawn that Buffy will turn on her, & like Anya said, even if it was the First, it still could be telling the truth. 1-8-03 I had one of those it-hit-me-the-next morning things. So Buffy is possibly part demon from the being brought back. But she's always been part demon, that's the slayer. What really happened to changed her & put things out of balance? My guess is SHE CAME BACK WITHOUT A SOUL. It sorta fits. All this time she's been criticizing Spike for being soulless, telling him that's why she can't love him. It just fits. Of course, I have no idea what it means. Greatest quote ever - "Come back when you are a leaper." One last thing - do you know what I'd like to see when Eliza Dusku shows up at the end of the season - a really nice bonding scene between Buffy & Faith where Faith reveals how she was called. I wonder about that. Was she trained by her watcher for a short period before being called? Was she called like Buffy completely without warning. That would seem awfully coincidental considering how many girls are prepared & never called. 1-7-03 "Showtime" - If Buffy had stayed dead, Anya said, the world would be a better place. Show's the love, huh? Well, okay. So it's safe to say Giles & Anya didn't just assume that the reason the First is active now is because Buffy was brought back but they were actually told that. So, well, first off, shouldn't this be last season's storyline? Secondly, this kind of addresses what was brought up last season & not addressed much. Buffy came back wrong. Spike can hit her. What is she? Is she a demon? Would that effect anything? Thirdly, why not kill her? Faith could be killed and someone new would be called but then there would be the hassle of finding the new slayer, if it were the slayer that was the truly important thing (Faith's sort of a sitting duck in jail by the way). But Buffy is the important thing - why? Why is she important to the PLANS of the First. Why is she the CAUSE of the plans of the First? That implies the First needs Buffy for something. And what could have happened when Buffy was brought back in whatever form that could cause some imbalance that could cause the apocalypse? I mean, I would understand if having two slayers right now would affect the scales but this I don't know about. Moving on, the whole point of the episode was to rally the potential slayers to their cause of fighting but, really, are we caring about that right now? No emotional link has been established yet between the audience & these girls, why do we care what they think? &, besides, the fight isn't at the point right now where they need to be rallied. This isn't after months of defeat or anything like that. So, when you think about it, the episode was really pointless. I'm sorry, I'm just pointing out some of the great fallacies in these episodes lately. If you're a great lover of this show, you will understand the disappointment someone who knows this show so well & admires it so much feels when they see it go so far downhill. Moving on again, the actress who played the blonde girl who was killed (potential slayer, if you're lost) was horrible. Just horrible. She couldn't even keep her accent straight. Change of topic - why do I have the feeling Kennedy would have been called after Faith? Lastly, a discussion of the Principal. Okay, so I would think him covering Jonathan's body was about maintaining the reputation of the school & his job but not when he says the things about liking surprises (last new episode). It's suspicious.
Angel 1-17-03 I just wanted to comment how much I'm enjoying "Angel". I rewatched the last 2 new episodes last night - what a great set up. What great dynamics between characters. What a great way to have Angel handle Cordy & Conner's indescrition - well, the end was a bit childish but all throughout the episode was downright classy. I just wanted to note that, at least so far, Conner's lack of bringing that up to Angel shows something about Conner & his geniune feeling for Cordelia. He's not saying - hey, I got her (at least yet) - which says that it & his whole crush isn't about getting back at his dad. But I just want to state my position that Cordelia just shouldn't have done it. I understand her intentions but she should not have done it. Whatever happens now - I have pity on the situation but I have no pity for her. It was just wrong to do to Angel. Charisma Carpenter is starting to show more now. I wonder how they are going to handle that. Will they have Cordy get pregnant by Conner? Will they just film Charisma from shoulder up and behind things? It's so weird to have everyone on these shows grow up so much. Lots of people are married, some have kids now. Charisma is the first to be pregnant on camera. Next thing you know SMG is going to pregnant for the finale of Buffy. No, it'll be Aly Hannigan & then her & Alexis will get married (as far as I know, they are still dating - that's like 3 years running). I always think that's what's behind them chosing Fred as the girl Wesley loves because she's smaller & has a lot of early Willow-like qualities. I myself always imagined him with someone like Lilah. &, btw, Stephanie Romanov was fabulous in this episode. She has pulled off so much depth to Lilah's character within the last season. I wanted to note that I was always rooting for Lilah to turn Wesley over to her will. But, I guess she has gone more evil & that was a line the character of Wesley just couldn't cross. 1-15-03 "Habeus Corpses" - I have three things I want to touch on. First is about Conner & what is actually being called Beast as a name. Well, clearly they are connected. One could think that maybe he just sucks energy from evil things & that he was out for Conner & that's why he rose there & all. Well, he's had a few chances for that. Other clues are that he said to Angel that Cordy wasn't safe with Conner. Of course, he might have known about the sex & wanted to have Angel see that (I'll get to that whole thing later cause I don't think I commented on it last time). Obviously Beast came up where Conner did, so they are connected. I suggest perhaps a counterpart? Coming up a year later. There were all those prophecies about Conner being this terrible force. Also, the kicker would be if Sasong (who I really want to see again) shows up & Beast kills him cause Conner is still prophesized to kill Sasong. One major thing I'd like to end on about this is that both Conner & Beast were unknown to Wolfram & Hart, that further establishes a link. The second part I wanted to put forth is that everybody should keep in mind that no one is protected our guys out of the goodness of their heart. Please always remember that the Beast thing & the little girl are evil. Evil is protecting Angel, Conner, & everyone (maybe even Lilah), which means it needs them. Which could mean they will serve an evil purpose (Beast's purpose, not Wolfram's). I always thought Wolfram & Hart were the First. The image of the First in an episode of Buffy this season & also in its original Buffy appearance looks like it is those things combined. But, I guess not cause Wolfram & Hart would know about this new thing as it is evil & thus apart of the First. The last thing I'd like to talk about is incest. Yay. Okay, I didn't have a chance to rewatch the previous new episode before today & I didn't catch before the comment where Conner saves the prostitute & he has no money to get a reward for saving her so she says something like "why don't you go to your mommy & she'll reward you for your good behavior." Well, what the hell. I've been getting some feedback from people about the incest themes with Conner & Cordy, but, I didn't realize Joss was so fully aware of it. It's really disturbing to watch. If I were Angel, I'd be freaking a little more than that. It's not really Conner's fault because he doesn't really have that frame of reference as Cordy being his mom figure - a little bit. But how could Cordelia do that & when she supposedly loves Angel? Oh wait, I think I did bring that up last time but I just wanted to note that it's almost crossing a line, Joss, & unless it has some point to later in the season, why was that needed? Even Julie Benz has admitted that Angel & Darla have a mother/son sorta sickness to their relationship but it's in a different realm than this with Cordy & Conner. Adding two short comments - that was so foreshadowing where Wesley says they need someone stronger & smarter to take on Beast & Lourn says "like there's a lot of that just lying around". That was foreshadowing for sure, but, could it be referring to Wolfram & Hart? They are all lying around now. Other thought - I just have this odd little feeling like Darla is going to be like showing up soon & I wanted to share it.
