That's My Take
My thoughts on the subject of Buffy & Angel Buffy

1-25-03
I had this thought - so the First can take the form of Buffy, & Dawn gets this vision from Joyce saying Buffy will turn on Dawn in the end - what if the First will take the form of Buffy to fool the Scoobies & that's what Joyce was talking about. Joyce said she didn't have time to explain - maybe she just didn't have time to explain that Buffy - the one who would be against Dawn in the end - was actually the First in the form of Buffy.

"Potential" -
Okay, well I was fooled. I thought Dawn would be a potential a while ago - how could she not be, she's made of Buffy. But, then I got thinking. Odds are - all the potentials are going to have to die for the First to do whatever it is that it plans. I'm thinking Faith might die. I'm thinking massacre. Dawn can't be a part of that - & the reason that is is because the show may go on with Dawn as the slayer. How would that happen? Sort of similar to my fanfic - powers being transferred. Second point of the day: I didn't realize the whole theme of "believing". Buffy believes in Spike. Buffy starts believing in herself. "Believe it," Buffy said to the girls that they would win over evil. It's about believing & trusting in the self. That's great. It's all about believing. You saw it again with Dawn saying to the actual potential slayer - "do you believe (we're gonna get us out of this)?" It's a theme. It's interesting that Buffy talked about "death is what a slayer lives." I was there thinking - death is a slayer's gift - to the new girl. Death is Buffy's gift of being a slayer to someone new. & it is a gift in many ways, although we all know in many ways it is not. I didn't even remember until just now but, aside from my end of Buffy fanfic about extinguishing the line of the slayers, my end of Angel fanfic featured the First - & in my scene with it you have Angel in hell needing to stay coherent to be able to save the world & exit hell - & the First is taking the form of Buffy who is then dead (for good though). Way to steal my thunder. See, I bet Joss Whedon's never visited this site but it's all about the psychic connection - although I haven't had any psychic Buffy dreams lately. I'm not dreaming, for that matter. Last thought is about Faith - why does every That's My Take have to end about Faith? Oh, because I've always had a Faith-yin. The potentials don't know about Faith - it's kind of a betrayal. What happens when they find out the line isn't in Buffy. The line's in Faith. Or is it? Is there a third slayer. Three slayers - that would certainly put things out of balance. Sorry, I'm just having trouble believing all of this now is about bringing Buffy back. There are so many things that could throw things out of whack that Buffy just didn't do conventionally. Dawn being made of Buffy, which I think still has potential (forgive the pun) somewhere, there being 2 slayers, Buffy dying so many times could have activated new slayers - we don't even know. Oh, I lied, I'm ending on a comment about Xander. That end scene was really something sweet especially for the long-time viewers. I was watching that just thinking back when it was Buffy & Willow & Xander - & Buffy barely knew her potential & Willow wasn't a witch just a girl & everyone was just so basically normal. Thinking how they've progressed... but, ya gotta know, Xander - he's progressed.

"Awakening" -
I got only one thing to say. I know this is a whole "Normal Again" Buffy thing where it was all a fantasy that is supposed to incite all this debate & crap. Well, all I got to say is "No Comment." Okay, actually - total betrayal of the audience & pointless at that. No point to it... Unless. I'm conflicted. I sorta feel like a lot of this season is good & I'm happy but I also feel like they're using a lot of traditional, less original methods & giving us the violence & typical action stuff we crave - so I feel torn between if I should enjoy this turn that may make me sort of a less sophisticated watcher than I hope I am & actually fully enjoying a season of Angel. & maybe this is Joss Whedon's little commentary indirectly about that. This change in pace & type... perhaps the writers & Joss feel sorta like they're selling out, of sorts. This is just a thought. I actually am really enjoying this season & I don't necessarily feel they're copping out but there is that little divide within me. It would make more sense because the episode really didn't have a point if nothing was real. The only message at all getting across is that things don't turn out nice & compact & easily categorized, which is duh as far as life lessons go. So, anyway. No comment.

Okay, this kinda was brewing in my head yesterday but - what if this is an attack on Angel from Angelus. Angelus is repressed but is it possible he's somewhere wanting to get out. This demon came from beneath the earth - what if that's where Angelus' spirit or whatever is, & Angelus & It came to a deal. It makes the most sense. That's why Angel doesn't remember it, it's why Cordy does - because she's seen all. Again, this may fall in line with that this is why Cordy's back. It's why Angel & Cordy fell asleep on the job of watching Manie & why his death was an inside job. It's Angelus. It could be why Conner's connected too. Angelus is connected to Conner through blood - that could be why Conner's place of birth & living space were used for what the Beast did. I mean, reaching here but he could be like the devil - that's why his power goes beyond Wolfram & Hart. What if they met when Angel was in hell? I would totally be inclined to say that that was what this was if Willow hadn't restored Angel's soul before he was sent to hell because it would explain the memory thing. Of course, the memory thing could just be like what happened with Manie, the Beast has a power. Still, I think my idea about Angelus trying to get out is pretty cool. I take back what I said yesterday about not liking it. But, please, spare me from that awful Angelus wig. I can't take it anymore. Brush the wig at least, okay? One last comment - good to see a girl being completely able to kick some a$$ on the show - cause it was getting a bit too patriarchal.

"Long Day's Journey" -
First off - let me rant. Okay, last season was all about Angel's past - everything was about something Angel had to pay for for what Angelus had done. Honestly, I was a little disappointed that the Beast has something to do with Angelus & not so much Conner. Maybe I just get sick & tired of seeing DB in that awful wig - I'm not sure - but it really annoyed me. The past is the past. Let it rest. I know Angel's is all bloody but this is sorta reaching - there's some deal he made with this thing long ago that he doesn't remember... folks, come on. Moving on. Gwen is very Faith-esqe. One thing that I thought was that maybe she's a part of all this. I did say last week that the Beast spared Angel & friends for a purpose - maybe it senses a connection with Gwen & Angel. About Conner - there still seems to be an apparent connection there, perhaps just cause the pact is with Angel & that's that. Hum... perhaps the pact was made that this would happen with Angel's child - the pact being made by Angelus fully aware that he couldn't have children cause that just sounds like something Angelus would do. It's just too coincidental - It comes up in the place where Conner was born a year after he was born, It does the ritual where Conner sleeps & lives. Another thing that stuck me during the episode was about Cordy getting the visions - or the memory jogging visions of Angelus with the Beast - that may be why she was sent back, to help stop it. & maybe when it's all over, she's back in the higher realms. I know Cordy's bored up there, but - hey, Charisma could leave the show. She's gonna be a mom, ya know. Last little thing I wanted to touch on is brought on by Lourn telling Angel that it maybe wasn't meant to be with Cordy but that Conner's always going to be his son. That struck me because that's saying it is probably not going to happen now between Angel & Cordy, which is a given but still something that I didn't process before, but it makes a lot of sense. It's the Sam & Diane syndrome. They can never get together - it would totally make the show suck. & besides, honestly, I never really saw it. I've always seen Cordy & Angel with a very sister/brother father/daughter - very family relationship - at least up until last season. I sort of think it's out of character - for both. That's all I got.
