That's My Take | |||||||||
My thoughts on the subject of Buffy & Angel |
Buffy 4-29-03 "Empty Places" Buffy is wrong in some ways. I'm not joining the rain on Buffy parade, we all know Buffy's plan was not a good one... but here's my plan. Buffy is a part of what's being planned - easy answer is for Buffy to kill herself. I mean, it's Buffy this whole thing is about. That would be the easiest way to end this & Buffy has already said if it were as simple as killing Dawn, she would do that. Why don't they realize that's the easiest thing - or will they soon & that's the plot reason for the split... The split was over dramatic. The episode was boring - nothing really happened. I don't know why a near-to-last episode was wasted like that.... Faith loves Buffy. That's something I believe & have always believed. She's not trying to hurt Buffy... Remember that the slayer is alone. That's what the First Slayer tried to tell Buffy. Donnie Darko quote "every living thing dies alone." The slayer does not walk in this world... This episode was like "Lies My Parents Told Me" - everyone was wrong. Coming down on Buffy was wrong, Buffy herself was wrong - & really, nobody has answers now. Maybe Buffy shouldn't lead. Really, to me, it seems there's nothing to lead right now. But Buffy shouldn't have been ostrasized - that's not the good plan. Cause Buffy's the only one we know for sure is not in any danger of dying right now - so around her people should enjoy some safety & some protection. Two slayers in a house is better than one is all I'm saying. Aside from that all I have to say about this episode is that we were provided a very interesting clue... "It is not for thee. It is for her alone to yield." So, what is "It"? But, more importantly, this gives us the an added clue about what's to come. There is something to be "yeilded" that only the slayer can... maybe only Buffy can. That's why she's needed. Caleb is going to have to "break" her as he said - turn her to dark... I'm just largely disappointed in this episode. I thought this was supposed to be a 5-parter! Give us something new besides that one little clue that was obviously added in to try to make people like me not b*tch & complain about how the episode was pointless & drawn-out. God, I can't wait for tomorrow's Angel!!!! If anyone is reading this who doesn't watch Angel - my god! It's like so great!!! The rumors are true, people. Angel has been beyond Buffy... really. It doesn't have that SAME magic early Buffy did, but it has a fire all its own. I'm just wondering how it will be sustained after everything dies down... of course, I thought things would die down when the sun came back- boy was I wrong. But, I'm sure the finale of Buffy will be beyond as well. & if it's not - then nothing is right in the world!!!! But, it will be. After all, Joss is writing it. Angel 4-30-03 "Peace Out" God, it keeps coming, man. I'm going to make this quick - I'll chew on this episode some more after my final tomorrow. The reason Conner could kill Jasmine was the same as how Wesley figured Cordelia could - just as Cordelia's blood could reveal Jasmine's true form, just as Conner always could see the true form, just as Conner's blood would reveal the true form. Somehow the parents were the only ones that could hurt the God. Interesting Jasmine admitted she was one of the Powers That Be. I'll really have to chew on that later. Remember last season finale when I said I was all confused because it seemed the Powers wanted what happened to happen... How they gave the vision of Justine (Holtz's main redheaded follower) in that bar for Angel to save her & in turn she sent Angel to the bottom of the ocean. Still I believe the vision Cordy had of herself in the mirror talking to Skip about loving Angel - I still feel that was a warning to Cordy to not go with Skip. So someone up there is still watching out for our guys. Jasmine was not the main voice of the Powers. There's still hope. Was this the fulfillment of the prophecy about Angel being all gray on his role in the apocalypse... looks like. Is there a possibility it's not - yeah. But still it looks like Wolfram & Hart are about to award Angel for doing evil a service. I love the morality questions that were again raised. Who is to say what's right? Jasmine had a point. - & let's remember Jasmine is like Angel in the way of they both killed & yet saved. So the question there is what side does that place them on - good or evil. I've got to study but that was my ten minute wrap up of WOW. Joss Whedon is a GOD! BTW, I thought Conner could always see Jasmine. I definitely knew he could see it after the blood thing, but I only suspected he always could. Wow. What will become of that kid. What will become of Cordelia? Is she a Power now? & what does it all mean? The higher message - the influence of fate, our choices, what makes a person who they are. Sorry, I don't have the time to wonder about it now. I've just got my life to live (& tests to study for) - hey, maybe that is the higher message! In the absence of god or the great reward (as Angel has said in season 2 in "Epiphany") what the hell else is there? Only life, my friends. This is a subject I've personally spent a many hours & frustration on & the only answer I ever got was that all I know for sure is that I'm alive & I've got to use that. We make mistakes & it's never perfect happiness but like Fred said - she'd take the misery over nothingness- & it's not misery all the time. There could be more beauty in a moment of sadness than an eternity without it. I've got to stop philosophizing - I MUST STUDY.
