COSC 1301 Website Assignment
- This week you will upload the new index.html file to your Geocities
account that will introduce the website you are developing for
this class. By the end of the semester, this index page will have 3 hyperlinks
to the remaining 3 webpages that are required for this assignment.
- Your index page should be fairly short and the purpose of your webpage
should be obvious from reading the first pane (what you see without having
to scroll)
- Do your best to make this page impressive and interesting.
- PLEASE LEAVE THE COSC 1301 link on the
bottom of your new index.html file. This link takes me to your assignments page which
you will be adding hyperlinks to for future assignments.
- Include at least one hyperlink on the index.html webpage
that will take me to a 2nd page which you should also have up this week.
It is fine to continue adding to this page and making changes
until the end of the semester. I just want you to start working on it and
not put it off until the end of the semester. I will just be checking to see
if the hyperlink is on the index.html page and takes me to some type of 2nd
webpage that ties into your website theme. The contents of the webpages will
not be graded until the end of the semester.
- Send me an email when you have your new index.html page uploaded to
Geocities.
- At the end of the semester when your
website is complete, it should demonstrate that you know and can effectively use the html tags
you have learned in this class. Check Appendix C for a list of tag
elements/attributes you will have covered at the end of the semester. (You will
not be required to include frames, forms or image maps on your final website but
you should plan to include the majority of the others)
- Check for misspelled words
- Include alt attributes for all of your images.
- Make sure all links work
- Make sure your html is correct and includes all 8 basic tags
- Each webpage should have a title element included (title in the head
section of your webpage)
- Your colors should be attractive
- Make sure your text is not difficult to read if you use backgrounds images.
- Hyperlinks and visited hyperlink colors should stand out and not blend
into the background
- Make sure any graphics you use compliment your webpage
- Make sure graphics download quickly. (file size should be 30-50 kb) If you
need help reducing these you may come to my office and I will help you)
- It is a good idea to check your webpages from Netscape and Internet Explorer to make sure
they display correctly in both browsers
