After were ran the car on the chassis dyno, we realized that
we needed to make some changes to the fuel delivery and air metering capabilities of the
factory system. At first, I had considered switching over to at the time new mass air
conversions offered by ETS or Modern Performance. But I decided against it after visiting
the turbo ford news bulletin. Most people on the bulletin only had negative things to say
about the conversion, especially the one provided by ETS. I then began to research
programmable standalone systems. At the time, I was dealing with a company Precision Turbo & Engine (purchased a tubular
header from them). The owner of the company "Harry" had a highly modified SVO
and had extensive knowledge of turbocharged engines (Buick Grand Nationals). He convinced
me to switch over to a programmable Speed Density system because of the systems
flexibility. There were two somewhat affordable systems on the market; one was
Accels DFI system and the new on the market Fel-Pro SEFI8LO system. He recommended
the Fel-Pro system because it had sequential electronic fuel injection capabilities,
seven-wire wide band O2 sensor, individual fuel/timing control for
each cylinder and a two-stage nitrous oxide control.
The system is defiantly more than I need at this time but its capability allow
room for additional performance modifications.
Please note that Fel-Pro has been bought out by Federal-Mogul and the system has been
renamed Speed-Pro. Although the name
has changed, the system Architecture has remained the same. |
