TAY A DAY: October 2000

Sunday, October 1, 2000

They're young, innocent, religious rockers...it's all too delicious. And even if they're not selling records now, can't you see Taylor writing and producing in his '40s, while Britney's reduced to making the rounds on the Vegas circuit? ~Liza Ghorbani for NME News

***special thanks to Jen for the use of her delicious picture of Taylor!***

"Anybody who digs deep at all and hears the new record, and the rest of the last record, will understand what we are doing and what we are about. Everyday we see so many people of every age group talking about the music and complementing it, and the industry people acknowledging it and the reviews are positive. It's stunning." ~Taylor, 'The Musical Brothers Continue Their Musical Journey', by Rex Rutkoski for ThemeStream, September 8, 2000

All you Chicago-area fans have a great time tonight at the show!

Taylor : Here's the weird thing, there's an amazing amount of things that fans know about me, but there's plenty that they don't. I think you guys probably know enough. ~Taylor, MSN Chat, June 17, 2000

***Many thanks to our friend Kris for the use of this awesome picture she took of Taylor!***

Do you feel cooler, or less cooler when people call you a boy band?

Taylor: Every band gets put in a box-whether it's the Black Crows being too hard and retro, or the Backstreet Boys being called teenyboppers. In the beginning, we were young and blond and we seemed like a chessy pop band. When you think of Hanson, you think of Mmmbop right? There were some deeper things going on, but people tend to focus on the pop side of things. ~Jump magazine, June/July, 2000

Thursday, October 5, 2000

"Making the best record possible is really the only goal," he says. "I do want to surprise people, blow some guy's mind who didn't think Hanson could do this, catch someone's ear and have them go 'Wow! That's a great song!' But, in the end, you just really want to feel really proud of it and be able to say, 'This is the best album I could have made.' You want to walk away with that feeling, regardless of how many copies it sells." ~Taylor, "The Musical Brothers Continue Their Musical Journey", by Rex Rutkoski for ThemeStream, September 8, 2000

All you TAD members in the Cleveland area, have an awesome time at the show tonight!

***Thanks, Anne, for the use of your up-close and personal picture of the one-and-only Babe!!!***

With this year's This Time Around CD, though, Hanson managed to free itself of the boy-band label. Time may be ticking its way off the charts, but it's simply a more genuine, not to mention grittier, record. Hanson may have lost a lot of fans when the guys invited Blues Traveler singer/harmonica devil John Popper to blow his heart out on a couple of tracks, but they gained credibility -- which you simply cannot buy. ~Malcolm Mayhew, Star Telegram, August 17, 2000

"Guess mine is not the first heart broken My eyes are not the first to cry I'm not the first to know there's Just no getting over you You know I'm just a fool who's willing To sit around and wait for you But baby can't you see there's nothing left for me to do I'm hopelessly devoted to you."

~Olivia Newton-John, "Hopelessly Devoted to You"

TLS and TC are definitely hopelessly devoted to the Babe, just in case you couldn't tell. ;-)

TLS will be rockin' out in Indianapolis with all the rest of you guys that will be at the Murat Centre tonight! See you there, have fun!

"Music is about hooks and melodies and memories and people looking back on a time in their life based on the music they heard. Music is about life and emotions and I want people to really, really feel that. I'll be satisfied when I feel like I know I've affected somebody, changed somebody, and they walk out going, 'Damn, that was good!'"

~Taylor, eye.net, September 28, 2000

Man...if he only knew....

Thanks to Shirl for today's pic.

"Taylor Hanson is 17, going on 30. He is the unflappable Hanson: smart, composed, quite talented, and it must be noted, the most drop-dead gorgeous of the three easy-on-the-peepers Hanson brothers."

~Ed Bumgardner, "Boys to Men: Hanson Grows Up and Their Music Does Too", Greensboro Journal, September 1, 2000

Hey Milwaukee! Have an excellent time tonight!

Tuesday, October 10, 2000

"The band is just about enjoyment of music."

~Taylor, "The Brothers Hanson Continue Their Musical Journey", Rex Rutkoski, ThemeStream

Have a terrific time, Fort Wayne fans!! :)

Wednesday, October 11, 2000

hitz_ashley asks: "Tay, we loved the Mick Jagger thing at Arlington. Did you plan that?

Hanson answers: It's good you caught and understood what I was doing. It was actually dare from some of the band members. They dared me to walk across the stage like Mick Jagger, do the little Jagger strut, and they bet me that I wouldn't do it, so I did.

~Hanson.net chat, September 12,2000

Thursday, October 12, 2000

"It's a total blend," Taylor says of a typical Hanson show. "We play everything off of all of our records, besides the Christmas stuff of course. Some of the independent stuff we played a long time ago we put in every once in a while, stuff from "Middle of Nowhere", stuff from the new record. Even new things that people haven't heard before. Then, we'll throw in a few classic rock covers just for the fun of it for us, things like "Crosstown Traffic" by Jimi Hendrix that people don't really know, but it's so much fun for us to play, or stuff like "Magic Carpet Ride" or "Sunshine of Your Love". Hopefully it makes an interesting show. Hopefully, people walk out going, 'Wow, that was a concert'."

~Taylor, allpop.com, September 14, 2000

Certainly TLS and TC always walk away saying WOW!! We'll be there tonight in Louisville rocking out with all you other fellow Hanson lovers at The Palace! :)

Friday, October 13, 2000

"If you're taking bets on which of today's crop of pop stars will be around in say, five years, or played on the radio a decade hence, the smart money is on these guys."

~David Segal, Washington Post, September 16, 2000

Saturday, October 14, 2000

"Taylor Hanson is one of most talented vocalists on the planet and will continue to make vital music and have big hits."

~Steve Greenberg, USA Today, September 22, 2000

Tonight promises to be a wonderful night for all.... TLS and TC are headed to Cincinnati to see the Luscious One and his wonderful brothers for one more show! See you at the Taft, Cinci fans!

"I want you to come on, come on, come on, and take it, Take another little piece of my heart now, baby. Oh, break it, Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah."

~Janis Joplin, "Piece of My Heart"

::sigh:: After every Hanson concert, Taylor and his brothers do take a little piece of our hearts with them...and now that all of the great times are over for this tour for TLS and TC, our hearts are broken. :( We miss you, ITZ!!

BUT, for the lucky fans in Erie, PA, the fun will begin tonight. Have a blast! We know you will. :)

Monday, October 16, 2000

"The thing about Hanson that's so odd for people from another perspective is the love-hate thing about the band. The people who love it, love it for the fact that it is what it is: three guys that are real and doing what we do. And for the same reason it's too real for some people; it's too much."

~Taylor, MusicBiz, September 2000

Tuesday, October 17, 2000

"I don't have any Barney in my record collection. Everything that's in my CD collection is something that I probably listen to, so it's not embarrassing. If I like it, I like it."

~Taylor, "Hanson and Why They're Not A Boy Band", Shannon McCarthy, Real Detroit Weekly, Sept. 2000

Have a terrific evening, Memphis fans! :)

Wednesday, October 18, 2000

"Hanson hasn't only developed musically but physically, they've morphed into the types of guys every father would hope to see on his doorstep to shuttle his daughter's to the prom."

~Richmond Times-Dispatch, September 2000

Oooh, we'd love for Tay to show up on *our* doorstep any day to take us any where!† ;-)

Nashville, prepare to ROCK!

...lead singer Taylor Hanson's vocals were both polished and soulful. ~"Hanson Busts the Boy-band Stereotype", by Alan K. Stout for Times Leader, September, 2000

Friday, October 20, 2000

Taylor, some girl in the balcony, threw a beach ball with her e-mail address on it and it hit me in the head - I threw it right at you. Hope you can find the time to e-mail her heart; I'm sure it would mean a lot. ~"Hanson Faithful Rewarded at Tower", by Johnathan Valania for philly.com, September 18, 2000

Rock on St. Louis!!!

Saturday, October 21, 2000

Nonetheless, Greenberg counsels against Hanson's premature burial. "'Taylor Hanson is one of most talented vocalists on the planet and will continue to make vital music and have big hits.'" ~"Where Will Teen Tastes Land Next?", by Edna Gundersen for USA Today

Sunday, October 22, 2000

It was an amazing notion: The young members of America's whitest pop band dancing to the dirty-rice-and-swamp-gas fury of the Creole King of Zydeco -- all on the 23rd anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. ~"Really Big Show", New Orleans show review by Chris Rose for The Times-Picayune, August 4, 2000

TC & TLS sure wish they were going to be in Kansas City tonight. Have fun you guys!!!

Monday, October 23, 2000

Of the brothers, Taylor is still clearly the heartthrob of the group, and working a crowd into a frenzy seemed to be his speciality on Saturday night. When he wasn't coming out from behind his instrument to run back and forth across the stage -- at one point he even climbed the speakers to get up to the balcony -- his black tank top alone seemed to be working its magic. ~"Hanson Hysteria Still Alive", by Jane Stevenson for Jam! Showbiz, October 2, 2000

All you TAD members in the Norman, OK, area have a GREAT time at the show tonight!!!

Tuesday, October 24, 2000

"Every era has a lot of crap and a lot of good stuff," he says. "The '60s were great, but there was some crap then, too. There's a lot of crap now, to be honest. But there's also a lot of great music. Put it this way: I'm really proud of what we're doing, and I hope we can be doing it for awhile." ~Taylor, "'This Time Around,' Hanson is Seeking Respect", by David Lindquist for Starnews.com, October 6, 2000

Only Taylor could make the word 'crap' sound divine! LOL ;)

Wednesday, October 25, 2000

"In a way, it's much more dangerous for a 30-year-old guy to say 'I like Hanson' than to say 'I like Limp Bizkit'", Taylor says. "More people are afraid to say they like Hanson. Therefore, we must be hipper." ~"Hanson Works To Bridge Gap From Teeny-Bop To Adulthood", by Steve Penhollow for journalgazette.net, October 8, 2000

Monterrey, Mexico will be rockin' tonight! TC & TLS should drag Taylor off o Tiajuana. We hear anything goes down there. ;)

Thursday, October 26, 2000

The stage was captivated by Taylor Hanson's performance and capabilities to give the audience a taste of true soul and showmanship ã even when the boys covered Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," Taylor lived up to Joplin's vocal skills. ~Debra Halpern, Staffwriter, The Tartan, "Reviewer Analyzes Definition of 'Boy Band' to Discover Hanson's New Image", October 2, 2000

Everyone heading out to the show in Mexico City tonight, have FUN!!!

Friday, October 27, 2000

"I know there are people who say, 'Oh they're young, so they couldn't be real.' All we ask is that they come to a show and see what we're all about. Most people will get it, if they're not afraid of it. Those that don't, screw 'em." ~Taylor, "Hanson Works To Bridge Gap From Teeny-Bop To Adulthood", by Steve Penhollow for journalgazette.net, October 8, 2000

Ooh, Taylor is getting so fiesty! We LOVE it!!! ;)

Saturday, October 28, 2000

Vocalist-keyboard player Taylor, in addition to possessing those cheekbones, has soul. Imagine Gregg Allman living a clean life for decades, and that might approximate Taylor's potential. Music courses through the 17-year-old, flying through his fingers and causing him to knock his knees in excitement. ~"Trio's Music Matches Fans' Mania", by David Lindquist for StarNews.com, October 8, 2000

Sunday, October 29, 2000

"And when my mind is free You know a melody can move me And when I'm feelin' blue The guitar's comin' through to soothe me Thanks for the joy that you've given me I want you to know I believe in your song Rhythm and rhyme and harmony You help me along makin' me strong Give me the beat boys, and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away."

~"Drift Away", Dobie Gray

**Yes, we know, this is a quote we have used before, but we thought it very fitting to use again as the 2000 North American tour draws to a close this evening at the Arizona State Fair.

Those of us who were lucky enough to see Hanson live this time around will never forget the wonderful music and good times we enjoyed. These are precious memories that we will always look back on as long as we live.

BRAVO, Taylor, Isaac, and Zac!! We love you!!!

Monday, October 30, 2000

ChaCha: Never have I seen fans so intense about a group. I mean your fans, they love you with every ounce of their being.

Taylor: There are a lot of very, very, passionate fans, which is extremely cool.

~93.3 Interview, San Diego, California, July 6, 2000

Thanks to Laur for today's pic!

Tuesday, October 31, 2000

Caller: A crazed fan breaks in your hotel room and rips all your clothes off - what do you do?

Taylor: Rips all my clothes? I would stop her before she could do that. Then I would shake her and look her in the eye and say "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU WOMAN?? and then call security!

Caller: What do you think of all the fans that throw their bras off on stage?

Taylor:Maybe they are sexually deprived and they feel they have to expose their bre... ummm, you know bras to let me know that they ... ummmm I don't know! I think it's odd!"

Caller: What do you do with the bras?

Taylor:What do we do with the bras???

Caller: Do you keep them?

Taylor: What do... hahahahahaha, what do you think think we do with the bras???!

Caller: You could hang them up on the wall!

Taylor: Put it this way, we have no use for them! Most of the time we have to throw the bras away!

~Hot 30 Radio, September 28, 2000, Australia

Man, what questions!

Thanks to Amanda for today's picture. :)
