I remember the first time I heard anything about the movie was my brother telling me that he saw a tv comercial about it. And it was the New Years Eve trailer. I was hyped right then and there. Not having the internet at that time, I couldn't log online and do research about it. So I just had to wait. over time I learned that Taco Bell and Hershey were promoting the movie. So I ate at Taco bell just about everyday. Played the game they had goin, and won tons of free, food plus the soundtrack!!! I thought that was cool. Hershey had the game of "Find Godzilla" Now I didn't dive into this one as heavily, cause fear of a giant Godzilla sized cavity (chuckle). But I did keep my eye closely on the two sponsers for any hint of the New Godzilla look. After weeks of nothing but the same teaser pictures, I was so ready for the release of this movie I was about to burst. I went to a store called Myer..it's alot like Wal-Mart Supercenter, and as I walked past the toy isles.....there he was!!! The NEW Godzilla. My first though was..."Is this a villian he fights?" Cause I knew how the studio was trying to keep the real thing from leaking out until the release day. So I obviously picked it up and was gonna purchase it as I left the store.
I went through the clothing section, and POW, there were shirts out. With this same creature on it. By this time I thought ok ok, this has got to be it. I thought he resembled the Alien creature. But I was inbetween dissapointment and cool.
This store had messed up on the release date of the film, or the toys and had them out early. The movie was not due out until the following week. But it was all good. My anticipation for what he would look like was all over.
I continued to eat at Taco Bell, and once I saw the movie I went back to see it like 5 times. After seeing it, I fell in love with the new Godzilla. He was so sleek, and fast. He seemed so much more alive than ever before. I remember after having seen it like for the 4th time. It was to the part where they just blew up Madison Sqaure Garden, and you (seeing it for the first time) think it's the end of the film. This lady in the same row as me was rushing her kids to beat the crown outta the theater, and I was like hehe you think it's over....well sit down and hold on. The big guy is about to crunch some more!!!! It was funny watching them set back down after he emerged from the stadium. LOL
So there's my little story on the Hype of Godzilla and the film. I thought it would be cool to share my G expierience with you.
And now for my Review of the film.
Grading this film from A to F....Godzilla gets a B+ in my book. The story line was good, but could have been better. The thing that gets me about it, with all the Monster flicks like the 54 Godzilla and King Kong, the Monster just parades around town and the military fires at him the whole time. It kinda gets boring to me. But anyway. The special effects were outta this world!! A real feel of "Oh my GOD!!!" as you watch this one. With the awesome audio quality, you can actually feel yourself tremble with Godzilla goes crunching through Ney York.
The action sequinces are far the best part of the movie, but I guess you need to human parts too or other wise you would have to wear an oxygin mask just to surevive the intense action scenes.
Godzilla himself is a sight to behold. This new sleeker more agile version gives a new life to the name Godzilla. His movements so smooth and clear you can hardly tell he's all CGI. Only a few things would I change about him. One, he needs a more meaner attitude. I can understand the missles and army scaring him the first go round, but after that is should have been, crunch crunch & bye bye! He's smart, but not smart enough to destroy the planes beforethey got him. He should have used his breath on them, or stomped the bridge completely OUT. Sending him into the water to swim off to safety.
Other than that I was completly satisfied with the big G and his romp through the big apple. Icatch myself watching it over and over again STILL to this day.
