This was such an interesting workshop. MSSW students were invited to this APA continuing education event. Clinical psychologist Kathleen Brougham talked to us about equine-assisted therapy and we did a variety of exercises with the horses. She explained that equine-assisted therapy is especially good for treatment-resistant and eating disordered clients. It was a spectacular experience. I took along my digital camera of course! They also offer a corporate program called Team Equus.

This horse has bright blue eyes; hence his name, Blue.

Inside...the stables and an Olympic-size dressage arena are to the left and Dr. Brougham's home is on the right. Pretty convenient!

Outside with Sunny. These participants were a mock family. Our task was to observe their interactions after they were told to "pick a bridle and go catch a horse."

Sunny again, with Dr. Brougham on the right with Wendy, the resident horse professional on the far right.
Mighty Zane, a giant Friesian horse.
Another pic of Zane. Wendy is dismounting. She could grab Zane's mane and swing herself up onto his back. Several participants tried but wound up kicking poor Zane in the butt everytime.
