Rationale:
This webquest was created as another activity for students studying the Civil War. I thought that it might be fun for students to do this as a culminating activity to their study. It is importantObjectives:
to have the students use the information they gather during the quest. This allows for their
higher level thinking skills to be engaged.
Process
- Learn about photography during the Civil War.
- Describe the medical treatment that wounded soldiers might have received during
the Civil War.- Describe some of the battles of the Civil War and the winning side.
- Write accounts of the Civil War from a journalist perspective.
Evaluation
- Prior to students doing the webquest, divide them into teams of four.
- Print out the data sheets for each member of the team.
- Read the webquest with the students. (You may want to print out copies of
of the quest for each student.)- We found that putting students with the same job together to gather
is helpful for those students who are not as able as others. Students
can help each other with collecting the data. This really depends on you
students.- After all the data has been collected, students get together with their
teams and decide how to present the data. It could be a presentation using
PowerPoint, a poster, a diary, or a combination of activities.- This project usually takes three half-hour lab periods to collect the data
and one or more to create the culminating activity.
You may use the rubric to evaluate student achievement. Students can see exactly
what criteria that will be used to give them a grade.Revised 6/20/00 by Barbara Jones
