Community Facts
Tucked into the rolling hills of north central Tennessee, only 30 miles
from Nashville, Dickson County, population 53,000, blends stunning
natural settings, a thriving economy with strong infrastructure, and the
best features of small town living into an enviable quality of life for
its citizens.
The county is steeped in history. The beauty and abundant resources
drew settlers to the area in the early 1790's. The frontier's first
iron works, built by James Robertson, known as "the Father of Middle Tennessee", later supplied the cannonballs used by Andrew Jackson's troops in the Battle of New Orleans. In 1803, Dickson became Tennessee's 25th county. Its courthouse, built in the county seat of Charlotte in 1833, is the state's oldest working courthouse.
Cumberland Furnace Historical Village, the area's first industrial
community, and Old Spencer Mill, an 1800's grist mill, continue to
draw history buffs and tourists alike.
Today's Dickson County is a vibrant area. Agriculture, industry and
health care provide a strong economic foundation. Exceptional schools, Higher Education Center, TN Technology Center, nearby colleges, quality medical facilities, performing arts venues, and superb recreational opportunities are appealing attributes. All these, coupled with a moderate cost-of-living, temperate climate, and ideal location, make Dickson County an outstanding place to call home.
