Earth Facts:
  • Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun in our solar system.   It is approximately 93 million miles from the sun.
  • The Earth has a diameter of 7,926 miles.
  • Earth is the only planet known to support life.
  • It takes 365 and 1/4 days for the Earth to orbit the sun one time.  Every 4 years we add the additional day (4 x 1/4) to our calendar in February as Leap Day.
  • A day (from sunrise to sunset) on Earth is only 24 hours long.
  • The Earth's atmosphere is made up of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and other gases.
  • Earth is covered with mountains, oceans, rivers, lakes, and volcanos.
  • The Earth's average temperature is 57° F.  The highest temperature recorded is 136° F and the lowest temperature recorded is -128° F.
  • The Earth has 1 moon which moves with the earth in an elliptical orbit around the sun .
  • About 70% of the Earth's surface is covered with water.
  • Scientists think that the Earth is about 4.65 billion years old.
