NEW Drama Program at LHHS
I do understand that I am the "new kid on the block," and I know there are certain expectations that you all have based on past experiences and traditions. I will do my best to try to keep those things in place that are effective and productive. However, I would like to have an opportunity to establish new traditions and experiences that are closely connected with my philosophy on how a theater program should be run.

My philosophy on how the theater program will be run is fairly simple.

Students must first learn to be disciplined, responsible, accountable, and mature individuals. The "art" that is then created by that student will be of the highest level.

Students will learn to be responsible for all parts of theater, not just the fun-parts that receive the applause. This way students will have an appreciation for every person who is participating in putting on  a production.

Students will be respectful of other students and respectful of me.

The material used for peformance and in-class workshops will be wholesome and challenging. I do not believe that in order to produce good theater, the material must be edgy and offensive.

Initially, and by that I mean this year, the goal is to produce three productions outside of class. Anyone will be allowed to participate in the production, as it will no longer be limited to the Advanced Drama class. There will be an open audition and anyone, even students that are not in a drama class, will be allowed to try-out.

The first production will be a large ensemble play that will be performed in mid-November. This piece is intended to get a large number of students involved in all aspects of production.

The second production is going to be a piece that highlights several of the most advanced students in the program. This production will begin rehearsals over the second week of the Winter Recess and will be peformed in mid-January. The purpose of this play is to give an opportunity for those students who are excelling in the program to stretch themselves and perform with excellence.

The third and final production will be another large ensemble piece. The production will either be a large ensemble play or musical, depending on the year. This piece is intended to demonstrate the skills learned throughout the year and to give an opportunity for a large number of students to be involved.
