DAY OF THE DEAD CANDY SKULLS 8 oz. Cream Cheese 2 lb. Powdered Sugar Food coloring Soften the cream cheese and slowly work in the powdered sugar. On a humid day you may need more sugar. The end mixture should have the consistency of play-doh SKULLS: Give each student a piece of dough the size of a walnut a paper plate and 3 toothpicks plus a drop or two of several colors of food coloring. Have the students roll the dough into an egg shape. (slightly smaller at one end) Use one finger to press two indentations for the eye sockets and one indentation below for the mouth. Use a toothpick to form the eyeholes, nose cavity and mouth. Decorate the skull with the food coloring. Perhaps put a name on the forehead. Candy can be eaten immediately or left to dry for 12 hours. Longer than that you might want to refrigerate it. **WARNING** Be prepared…some of them will end up with stained tongues, by accident or on purpose. It won’t hurt them, but it will definitely look strange! ALTERNATIVES: Make mock marzipan fruit and animals for Pascuas. Makes approximately 32 balls of candy per recipe. |
