Dear Parents,
Welcome to another wonderful week here at Mars Hill Elementary School.  Today the weather outside our classroom window is beautiful, but from the sound of our forecast, it may not stay that way for long.  Remember to call the school closing hotline in the mornings for updates when bad weather is forecast to occur.  The school hotline number is 206-1010.
The candy fundraiser dates have been extended until this Wednesday, March 9.  Please make sure all money and/or left over candy has been turned in on this date.  Thanks for all you help with this fundraiser!
Read Across America Day has been rescheduled for this coming Friday, March 11.  This is a national day to celebrate not only our love of reading, but Dr. Seuss's birthday, which was March 1.  The date set had been for March 4th, but weather required us to reschedule.  Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite
book character.  Staff members will dress up as well.  There will be activities planned to celebrate and enjoy different types of books.  This is a fun day and I always look forward to seeing all the book characters come to life.
The PTO sponsored "Bingo Buddies Family Game Night" this past Friday, March 4 from 5:30 until 7:30 pm in the school gym.  Attendance was fantastic!  They plan to host another one soon.  If you were unable to attend with your child, please make plans to come and enjoy the fun next time!
The fifth grade will be taking our trip to the Scheile Museum on March 24.  Please send in both permission slips and the $6.25 as soon as possible.  Remember that students will need to bring a bag lunch from home or arrange to have one made in our lunch room since we will not have time to stop anywhere along the way.
After-School Tutoring begins today and lasts from 3:00 until 4:00.  Students can be picked up in the main school lobby when the class is over.
This is a reminder that it is against our school policy for students to carry operational cell phones with them during school hours.  In the past couple of weeks, we have had some trouble with them ringing during class.  Not only is this a distraction to our learning environment, but it can become a hindrance to our safety during a lock-down situation.  I appreciate your help with this matter.
I hope that each of you have a wonderful week and if I can help you in any way, please feel free to call me at school (689-2922).
Sincerely,
Amanda Jenkins
