I grew up in Brevard, a small town in the mountains of North Carolina. I graduated from Elon College, with a degree in English Education. I earned my Academically Gifted certification after taking an additional 180 hours of coursework between 1999-2001.
This is my tenth year teaching middle school. I've been at WMS since 1999, teaching mainly eighth grade AIG, though I have also taught sixth and seventh grade classes. I love teaching because it gives me a chance to relate to my students and hopefully make a difference.
In my free time, I enjoy doing things with my friends and family. I am a big PANTHERS fan and love to watch sports - especially live! I also love shopping and going out to eat. My favorite restaurants are probably Olive Garden, Carabba's, Macaroni Grill and Chili's... (are you sensing an italian theme?)... though there are so many good restaurants around the Weddington/Charlotte area, it's tough to choose!
I got engaged during the summer of 2006, and was married on December 16. My husband is a
sixth grade social studies teacher at
Marvin Ridge Middle School.
I feel very honored to have been named the
Teacher of the Year
by the WMS faculty during the 2004-2005 school year.
Considering the high caliber of all of the teachers at our school, I truly feel honored to have held this title.
As the WMS representative for Teacher of theYear,
I had the opportunity to participate in the competition for Union County Schools Teacher of the Year. After the scores were tallied for the interview and portfolio, I was named one of the
top ten teachers in Union County,
thus qualifying for a classroom visit and observation.
Though I did not win the county competition, I learned so much about myself as a teacher during the process. It was a great experience that I hope will continue to make me a better teacher through the years.
