From the Mind of Family Guy, Volume 3: Unlocking Fortitude Curves

I'm sure a large portion of our Raw Deal player base has spent at least a little time in the world of video games, playing characters that they had to buff out their stats in order to make them monsters and broken in their games. Sitting down and playing Dynasty Warriors 4 all this past week made me think of how Raw Deal decks are much the same.

You start a game of Raw Deal at zero Fortitude, and thus are not able to play every card in your deck. The trick is that you need to have enough cards available to you to hold off your opponent until you can get Fortitude down, and unlock more cards in your deck that you can play.

As with all of these other articles, I'll refer to a deck that I've been playing.

Now, let's look at what the deck consists of, and how many cards are available to us at 0F. With 72 applicable cards that can be played (adding in the two For the Love of the Game), 32 of them are available at 0F. (This does not count the three Shoot Forearms or Thrust Knee Lift, the former which are only 0F if you are behind, the latter if they are in your Ringside). 44.5% of the deck is playable out of the box.

Now, if you play your normal prematch, and you No Show for Nuks and Strangle Hold, pop in Showtime and get a Pump Kick off Regal, you will most likely have 4F. This unlocks another 16 cards - another 22%, which means that two-thirds of your deck is available upon landing a single move. Hitting a Technical Stomp from this point brings in everything that isn't a Technical Lunging Lariat (as a maneuver) or the Dudley Dog.

When building decks, especially as beginners, the goal is to gain access to everything in your deck as quickly as possible. You won't always have the best cards, but having a foil you can't play is much worse than having a common you can. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that 60% of your deck can be played as soon as you land your first move - that is, 60% of your deck is made up of cards that are less Fortitude than the first move you normally try to hit. You'd like almost 90% of your deck to be playable after two Fortitude producing cards hit the table. That way, should your Fortitude be stripped, it's not the end of the world, and should anyone get the upper hand on you, you have in deck reversals to stop people from rolling you.

Remember that you can't build a house without a solid foundation, and that Raw Deal is no different. When you start deckbuilding in order to survive hurricanes, your win-loss ratio will improve.
