I started with a 92
Trail Boss frame and an 87 Trail Indy chassis. Both of them cost about $800. The
motor needed to be rebuilt and the frame had everything I needed. Some of the
parts I was able to return to the dealer like the sled chassis and gearbox and
motor out of the wheeler.

Yep,
you guessed it's a 488cc Fuji motor. Why fan cooled you ask? Light weight
and basically it's the same motor as a liquid cooled 488 but a lot less
hassle. Generally we start by stripping the frame and mock up the motor
and pipes. Then add the jackshafts, keeping proper clutch alignment. We
added jackshaft brakes at a later date. |

This
is what you get after spending $400 on tires on stock wheels and a whole
lot of time on welding. Pretty neat huh? It's nice having a Polaris dealer
and mechanic on your side. We run Decker pipes (hand fabricated) 38mm
carbs and Power Mist fuel. That's all of the mods for now, where thinking
about allky for next year. |

At
the back tires this thing will have about 15/1 gear ratio, not factoring
in the variable clutching. We do all of our own clutching and gearing by
test pulling a pickup truck, applying the brakes gradually. We do this
until we get the motor to run in the powerband, about 8600rpm.Still needs
to be fitted with plastic (2000 Scrambler) and taken apart to get
sandblasted. We ended up painting this one with a 95' Dodge Driftwood
color with red accents. |
