Twist of Fate

PART TWO OF "GIRLFRIEND"

Jeff needed a release from the world as he tried to heal his broken heart. It was no surprise that he was on his dirt bike riding around the country back roads, not really knowing where he was going. For some reason, that journey ended at one of his best friend's houses. The woman who inspired millions and was the most popular female in the wresting industry. The woman known to the world as Lita, who Jeff called simply Amy, his little sister. Jeff knew nobody who listened to his problems as good as Amy did. She gave the best advice she could, thrown in with a female‘s perspective. He knew that someone as modest, down to earth and sweet as Amy would do everything she could to make him feel better. That's the kind of treatment that Jeff could use right now. When his other friends had forsaken him, Amy was the only person who listened to him without complaining.

He walked to the front door of her new home and rang the doorbell. He heard Amy's dog, Cody, running to the door barking his tail off. The door opened to Amy who had a welcoming smile on her face. She was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans.

"Hey, boy! I was just thinking about you." Amy said as Jeff bent down to pet Cody.

"What's up, sis? How are you?" Jeff hugged Amy.

"I'm fine, come on in." Amy said before she shut the door.

"I see that you're still not finished moving in." Jeff said as he observed the boxes scattered throughout Amy's house.

"I know, man. Cody and I are still working on it. So what brings you over here?" Amy asked as they both sat next to each other Indian style on the white carpet.

Jeff sighed and leaned against the wall behind him. He didn't tell anyone about the end of his relationship with Beth but it still hurt him even though this was the first time. Jeff noticed that Amy was listening Staind's latest CD, "Break The Cycle." He felt tears come to his eyes since that was one of Beth's favorites.

"What's wrong?" Amy asked with a voice of concern.

Jeff couldn't fight it anymore and he certainly couldn't hide anything from his sister so he just started to cry on Amy's shoulder.

"Beth and I broke up."

"Oh, my god." Amy said to herself before she gave Jeff a hug that seemed to last forever.

She just comforted him by whispering to him everything would be okay in his ear while she held him.

"I know how you feel, man. Just let it all out, Skittles."

After about fifteen minutes, Jeff stopped crying.

"Now, tell me what happened."

"My schedule was really fuckin' her up. She said she missed me too much when I was gone. She said since I'm a WWF Superstar, she'll never spend all the time with me that she wants. Since our popularity as the Hardy Boyz & Lita has gone up so much, she knew we would be more busy than ever. She didn't want me to choose between wrestling and her. She said I was killing her because she loved me to much. She depended on me too much, she needed to be Beth, not Jeff’s girlfriend, Beth. She said she needed me..."

"But not as a boyfriend?"

"Exactly. She told me I would just hurt her more if we stayed together.

""I am so sorry, man. I really am. Is there anything I can do?" She asked walking into the kitchen, grabbing him a Kleenex.

"Can I stay here tonight? I don't wanna chill at home tonight. It's just pictures of me and Beth everywhere. Too many memories there. The first time we kissed, the first time we argued, the first time we had sex. You know? I just can't stay there tonight."

"I understand. You can stay here as long as you want. Have you told anyone else about this?"

"Nope, like Britney Spears, you're the first one to know."

"Funny. Are you sure you’re gonna be alright?"

"It's just hard to believe the love between us is over. It'll take me awhile to get over her. Imagine how you would feel if Matt dumped you."

"Oh, god. Boy, don't even give me those kind of thoughts. My life would be a living hell without my baby." Amy said as she smiled sympathetically at him.

"See what I mean. I really thought she was the one, you know."

"Yeah, I feel you. But you know Jeff...if I've learned anything from you and Matt, it's how to be strong. Y'all went through so much shit to get to where you are today. Tons of adversity stood in the way when y'all were on the Indys but y'all stayed determined. You never lost sight of your goals. Being WWF Superstars is what y'all wanted. Y'all paid your dues. Y'all worked your little cute asses off and God finally answered your prayers. He saw all that hard work, determination, effort, sacrifice and he finally blessed you guys tremendously in the end. All that stuff paid off in the end. As far as I'm concerned, Jeff Hardy is a survivor. Fuck Destiny's Child. You're the one that's a survivor. You are a very strong man. I can't stress to you how much you inspire me, Jeff. It's something I hold in my heart. Your story not only inspires me though. Do you know how many people look up to you? Because of you, I'm here today. If y'all had not believed in me when I was a nobody, there would be no Lita and do you know how many people look up to me? All that magic is because of you. Indy wrestlers in North Carolina are proud to be from this state because that's where the Hardy Boyz are from. You know what I'm saying? None of that would be possible if you weren't strong...but that's exactly what you are. That's why I have total faith in the fact that my big brother is gonna get through this." Amy explained.

Jeff looked at Amy for a minute and that slowly turned into a big smile. He felt a little emotional after that big speech because it was so true. Jeff knew that he was a role model to tons of people. The more he thought about it, he knew he would be able to get through this situation...because he was a survivor!

"Get your ass over here and give me a hug." Jeff smiled.

Amy giggled and gave her brother a hug. Jeff couldn't help but feel flattered and motivated by what she just said. He didn't feel as sad about Beth leaving him now.

"You always know what to say, Amy. You always say the right thing. Thanks, girl."

"I love you too, Jeff." Amy smiled.

The phone rang and Amy got up to go answer it. Seconds later, she came back with the phone in her hands.

"It's Beth." Amy tossed the phone to Jeff and left the room with Cody.

"Hello." He said reluctantly, not exactly sure how he felt hearing her voice after what had gone down.

"Hey, Jeff. I was worried about you after I left. I just wanted to check on you." She said softly, her concern apparent in her voice.

"Oh, I'm fine. Amy talked to me for awhile and really cheered me up.""What did she say?"

"She just explained a lot of stuff to me. She told me how strong I was, how many people look up to me, how much I inspire her and the fact that she knew I would eventually get over you."

"Yeah, that's your little sister."

"I know, she really helped me out...again. Oh yeah, I'm gonna stay here tonight. I don't wanna stay at home, too many memories, you know."

"Yeah, I couldn't do it either, man. You sure you're gonna be alright before I go home?"

"Don't worry about me. I'm straight."

"Alright. I love you, man."

"You too, girl." Jeff hung up the phone and smiled to herself. He had a feeling that everything would be okay. Amy stepped back in her living room. She was surprised to see Jeff so happy.

"Did you and her just get back together because you're smiling big."

"No, everything's just fine, Lita."

"Cool." Amy sat next to Jeff before he put his arm around her.

"Where would I be without you, girl?"

"You'd be one messed white boy."

"I know right. You know, my mind always tried to tell me but maybe the single life is for me."

"We'll see how long this lasts."

"Let's go somewhere." Jeff stood up.

"Where? It's 10:47, boy."

"Let's go to Wal-Mart!" He said jumping up and throwing his jacket on.

"Why do you need to go there?" She asked giggling as he was already half-way out the door, before realizing she wasn’t with him and coming back.

"Just come on, Christine!" Jeff grabbed Amy's hand and they were gone.

"You know, we kind of just taught her how to jump off buildings. Yeah, we really clicked and became good friends." -Jeff Hardy

"Matt and Jeff are the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring. They've always been there for me from day one. I think of them as big brothers. On a professional level, they've helped me more than anybody but at the same time, it's real nice to know that we can go and watch movies, eat pizza and talk about non-wrestling stuff." -Amy Dumas
