The Rest of that day was a like an Endless Dream, Only this wasn't a dream, It was far to real, I wish it wasn't
I just can't picture my Life without Mommy, Who was going to take me and Mattie to School, Who was going to make us Lunch in the summer, Who was going to make me feel better when I hurt myself. I asked myself these questions while the rest of my Family comforted each other,
There was one person that would be able to comfort me, But Mommy was never coming back, Why did this have to Happen to me, to us.
Mattie was doing a little better as the day worn on, He stopped crying, If you can call that an Improvement.
Mattie went with me outside, Down to the Creek that was at the end of our yard, This was a Place that we would go during the Afternoon in the summer, We would stay there until Mommy would call us in.
Mattie held my hand as we got down to the Bank, I put my Hand in the water, It was cold, Just like Mommy was, The water was never this cold, and It was only August. We stared in to the Water for a Long Time.
I saw our Reflection in the water, It didn't look right though, I couldn't explain why right then and there, but looking back, It was because we were missing a very Important part of our Life.
We were Missing Mommy
I knew Matt was trying to figure out what I was thinking about, I knew he wanted to talk to me, Ask me what's wrong, But he couldn't find the words. He just stood there looking into the water. As it gently flowed down stream.
Matt sat down on a Rock and watched me and I kneeled down at the Base of the Water. I could feel his eyes watching me. But I didn't feel uncomfortable I did feel like he was trying to Comfort me though he was too scared to try anything.
"Jeffie, come here" he said reaching his arm out, I grabbed it as he pulled me towards him. "Yea Mattie" I asked, Looking into his Brown eyes. "I want you to know that everything is going to be ok I am going to take good care of you," He said his best attempt to sound certain. "I know Mattie I know". I hugged Matt as the sliding door to our house opened. Aunt Joanie's voice called us into the House to get ready to for dinner. Smiling at me Matt took my hand and ran with me into the House.
The smell of Chicken filled the air as we walked into the house, I saw Matt make a face and stick his tongue out, Chicken wasn't his Favorite thing to eat.
Grandma sat us down at the Table and filled our plates with The Food from the Table. Matt moved his food around on the plate a lot, He isn't much of an Eater. I ate all Grandma put on my plate, Just because it was getting dark out and I wanted to see Mommy on the Sky.
When Matt pushed his Plate away for the Final time, I grabbed his Hand and dragged him outside. We stood on the Porch and I looked up into the sky. Matt thought I was nuts. "Jeff what are you doing" He asked me. I pointed to the Bright star in the Sky. "Mattie, Grandma told me that the Bright star in the Sky would be Mommy, and It will shine because she is proud of us" I said cheerfully looking into the sky.
Matt smiled at me and looked into the Sky. There it was the Brightest Star I could see, and It was right above our house, Watching over us.
It's been along time, Since they took My Mother away from me. Just like Matt promised things were going to be ok, My bother and his Beautiful eyes took care of me, He did do a Pretty Good Job. I understand now what Happened. But Inside me still is the Child who looks in the stars to see God's most Precious Angel.
Finally I know
the answer to the Question, Where did Mommy Go
