Notes

Eva Minerva SPAFFORD

It is said that Eva Minerva Spafford divorced George Rowell, which was an uncommon thing to do at that time. Since she did not have enough money, she sent her son, John Spafford Rowell, to live and work with another family in the Vermont area. He slept in the barn, didn't eat anything but fried food, which caused boils, and did not have the proper blankets or clothing to keep warm. (As told by Ruth Marie Rowell Boone, July 4, 2000.)
