William Meadows farmer, justice of the peace, and tax collector of Estill County, Kentucky, moved to Montgomery County, Kentucky perhaps between 1830 and 1840. In the 1840's he went to Missouri, settling first, it is believed by descendants, in the vicinity of St. Louis. According to family tradition, two sons and a grandson made the journey on horseback.
Moved to Monroe Country Indiana in 1818.
John Hanson Meadows was about six feet tall, of fair complexion with light hair and blue eyes. During the Civil War, he served 1 May 1861 through July 1861 in a Missouri Home Guard Unit. He enlisted 28 Oct. 1863in Co. L, 6th Prov. Missouri Militia. He was discharged 15 March 1864 at Yellville, Arkansas.
