What is Teatrong TUBO?
Teatrong TUBO is mainly of acting,dancing,singing,and painting.Although they are of young ages,they perform as professional actors.
This Group has been around for a year, starting and maintaining a tradition that is distinctly professional in its approach. It boasts of quality dancing,acting,singing,and painting— energetic and refined moves that mold into every show’s theme. Its range is diverse, covering acts from ethnical to the model styles. Its performances breathe with a rhythm that makes everything come to life.
BRIEF HISTORY
Teatrong TUBO began when the group came up with idea of building a theatrical group,during the BIMP Eaga Anniversary held at Marco Polo Hotel as they were invited to an ethnical LUMBA dance.This was headed by Erwin Jay Pantujan who is the former president. This unusual group of performers wanted to try out other forms of expression that appealed to a wider audience without losing its dedication or discipline that they had for dancing.So they decided to add acting,painting and singing cause they indeed had this field.
To top it all off, they went for a very “risqué” name,TUBO, which was, in a sense,a start of growing. With the full support of DREAM center, they made their best in the performance for Philippine Eagle Week. Since then, their performances moved on from the more established stages.MTS,JS Citimall,CAP,and AMA.
This group of actors began a tradition that has since been a standard linked with the name, TUBO. Not only did they support many organizations, but they were also considered an act in itself. With extra detail and care put into their styling and costuming, these actors caught one’s attention almost immediately onstage. Moreover, they performed with an apparent passion and love for what they do. The result is an act that is a feast for one’s senses, a true pleasure to watch.
Initially choreographed by Mr.Jonathan Mancao, the group has become a breeding ground for fresh and innovative choreographers.
To this date, the tradition and standards set by the very first generation of TUBO has been carefully maintained. Under the leadership of its present managing and artistic former President, Erwin Jay Pantujan, this group continues to impress audiences not only in the Davao maybe, but everywhere else in the world.
THE PRESENT BATCH
The present group of TUBO started with 7,namely,Erwin Jay Pantujan,Rolly Gatchalian,Norilyn Bernabe,John Carl Sereno,Ma.Twinee Handugan,Thecille Camille Valdez and Catherine Salazar. It is composed of over 20 members as of the moment. All of them are likely full time professional performers.
Today, no other organizations in AMA(Davao) displays togetherness better than this group of performers. This is TUBO’s strength and pride. From a distance, an entire ensemble seems to breathe and move as one. The clarity of their movements, the energy and rhythm of each individual is consistent to the next. It is as if they are linked to one another onstage.
Yet these individuals can stand on their own as soloists when required. Their training and confidence as seasoned artists are apparent in these instances.
Not only are they equipped with refined terpsichorean skills. There are many other talents found in each individual—from professional styling and designing, to acting, to directing—the list goes on and on. Many times, these talents are also integrated into their performances.
With this fusion of talents, passion and focus, it is no wonder that this group has come a long way from being “just performers” to what it is today. The possibilities are endless— this is the motto these artists live by. And the journey has just begun…
