The ability of whether a CD-ROM drive can handle DAE is carried out using the automaitc CD-ROM recognition . For most drives this has been carried out by one of the Nero users. There are several reasons for this behavior. Start by reading: the CD-ROM apparently can't read any audio-tracks.

If the error message appears during Drag&Drop of files or when copying CDs with audio tracks, then it is also possible that your CD-ROM drive can only read the audio tracks at 1x. If the latter is the cause, then in Nero not only Drag&Drop of audio files from CD is blocked but also drect copying of CDs with audio tracks.

If you are sure that your CD-ROM drive can handle DAE , then you can persuade Nero to accept it by repeating the automaitc CD-ROM drive recognition. On this, see Repeat the automatic CD-ROM drive recognition .

With the current Nero version this is not possible.

At the moment only very few burners can handle writing CD-Text. A large number of these burners have only become capable of doing this through a Firmware-update. The burners listed below can only as of the respective named Firmware CD-Text write (the list does not claim to be complete). This also makes it possible that older Nero versions do not yet know that the burner as of a certain firmware the burning of CD-Text as of a certain firmware version. Therefore you should make sure that you are using the newest Nero version:

Note that there is no point in first burning an image on the image recorder and then to burn this image with your (not CD-Text capable) CD burner . The CD-Text information will not be burned!

You can check this also follows:

First check if in the the CD-ROM database of Nero it says whether your CD-ROM drive DAE .

1. First determine the name of the CD-ROM drive (see: Determine the name of the CD-ROM drive / CD burner
2. Open the CDROM.CFG file (can be found in the Nero directory) with a text editor.
3. Now search for your CD-ROM drive in this file

Among other things, you will see the lines:

NO_SUPPORT=

CDRCAP_MAXREADDASPEED=

If after NO_SUPPORT= there is a 2, then either your CD-ROM drive can't handle DAE or when determining the properties of the CD-ROM drive, the read quality was so bad that the DAE property was deactivated.

If you think that your CD-ROM drive can handle DAE , then you can check this in Repeat the automatic CD-ROM drive recognition .

This is not possible with the current Nero version and is not planned either. You need other software to initially save soundtracks from records or cassettes onto the harddisk as WAV files. Because you are not yet using the most up-to-date Nero version or are trying to make a direct copy (copy-on-the-fly) from CD-ROM drive to CD burner .

As of Nero version 4.0.5.0 under 'savetrack save' this option can be selected for all drives. As of Nero 4.0.5.6 this option can be activated when copying CDs.

For burning audio CDs, since Nero 4.0 audio tracks can be taken over in the audio compilation from another CD-ROM drive using drag&drop. This feature is now on offer for CD-ROM drives as it is not possible to use the CD burner as a read and write device at the same time. Therefore in the CDA options the read speed of CD burners can not be set either. The owners of two CD burner are unfortunately affected by this problem as well. If you do not want to read the audio tracks from your CD-ROM drive or do not have one, then in the up-to-date Nero version you have to resort to the menu command CD recorder->track saving .

There are several causes:

1. your CD burner can not handle burning in DAO mode. In this case 2 link-blocks are inserted between the individual tracks. these link-blocks cause a pause 2/75s long
2. The audio data to be burned has a short pause at the end. Please check if this is the Case:
• for WAV files: Use a WAV Editor to check if there is a short quiet phase at the end. If so, remove this phase.
• in MP3-files. Save these files as WAV files and then proceed as described in for WAV files. MP3 Files are citical insomuchas a MP3 decoder needs at least 3 to 4 MP3-frames if applicable for synchronization. the up-to-date Nero version can not remove this.
• for tracks which are inserted by Drag&Drop from the CD-ROM drive: It is possible that there is a pause here as well. It could also be, however, that the CD player is reading in a part of the followign pause as well. Therefore the option Remove Silence at the End of CDA Tracks in CDA options should be set.

1. A very short break often has to be insertes because the end of the audio track is not at a sector limit (block limit). A Block records 1/75s of an audio-track. If an audio-track does not end at a block limit, then the Block is filled with silence. Possibility to prevent this: How do you burn a live recording?


How do you burn a live recording?

With a live recording if possible no additional pauses should be burned. Please note that index markers do not correspond to the track limits.

First of all the pause between the tracks/pieces should be set to 0s. How do you get around the 2s pause?.

Note: Nero itself should separate the track of the live recording into individual tracks/pieces.

Reason: See item 3 under Despite setting 0s pause, you can hear a short pause. If Nero takes over the separation, then Nero make sure that the track ens exactly at the end of a block and therefore no extra pause has to be added.

Procedure:

The track with the live recording or the WAV files is copied into the audio compilation as often as tracks are to appear on the CD. Then you double-click the tracks one after the other and the appearing in each respective dialog can be set in track limits On starting the first Block (Frame) to be played is given: At the end the Block is given which is not to be played any more, i.e. at the next track the value should be given as the starting time which was given at the end of the last track. After all tracls in the audio compilation have been recorded, the pause can be set to 0s for every track (mark all tracks except for the first track and double-click)



How do you get around the 2s pause?

As standard a 2s pause is always inserted between the individual tracks. this pause can be avoided by double-clicking a track in the audio compilation. In the properties dialog which now appears, the pause can be set to 0s.

Comments:

• Bevor the first audio track there has to be a pause of at least 2s as this is defined in the Red-Book. This pause is omitted when audio CD players play audio CDs, as an audio CD player always start to play after the first pause on an audio CD.
• Not with every CD burner can the pause be set to 0s. the pause can only be set to 0s if the CD burner can handle DAO or the option variable pre-gap and in addition the minimum pause can be set to 0s.
• We know of one case in which the driver ASAPI.VXD by CD-Wizary caused the phenomenon that a 2s pause was inserted between the first and the second track . If this exact phenomenon should occur, then you should remove the CD Wizard for test purposes and start Windows again. The drive can be found in the Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory.

Tip: If you mark all audio tracks (apart from the first track), then the pause can be set to 0s for all at the same time by carrying out a right click on the marked track list.

Why does significantly more than 650MB of audio data on the CD?

A 74Min / 650 MB CD has got 333000 Blocks / Sectors.

A Block can accept 2048 Bytes of data but in contrast 2352 Bytes of audio data.

Reason: A data sector also includes EDC/ECC information to reduce the likelihood of errors.

333000*2048 = 681.98 Million Bytes = 650.39 Data MegaBytes

333000*2352 = 783.22 Million Bytes = 746.93 Audio MegaBytes

This means: A 74 Min / 650 MB CD has got the following capacity:

650.39 MB with data information

746.93 MB with audio information

1s audio track needs 75 blocks:

333000/75 = 4440 Seconds = 74 Minutes

That means: 746.93MB of audio information fit on a 74minute / 650MB CD.



Is it possible to create audio CDS with a pre-Emphasis Flag?

Not with the current Nero version. It is to be assumed that this will not be implemented either because demand for this feature is not high enough. Refer also to pre-Emphasis Flag.



Why can't CD text and Filter be used at the same time?

Because CD-Text can only be burned in DAO mode but filters are not capable of real-time so that you have to burn in TAO mode. This problem can be avoided by burning on the image recorder and then burning the image on the the CD.



How do you burn MP3 files onto an audio CD?

If Nero 4.0.5.0 or a newer Nero version, then audio files which exit in the MP3-format can be treated in Nero exactly the same way as WAV files. Nero carries out the conversion automatically.
