Ways of the World

In the ways of the world today
Young children creep beyond the shadows of the Soul
Basking in the coldness of the heat that we can no longer provide
I stand at the foot of a divide
Between a man and a child
How can we make a mountain out of a molehill
When there ain't enough dirt?
How can we make love out of affection
If there is too much hurt?
Tell me what's real
On the stage I face a thousand points of light
The boom of thunder echoes in a sound-proof thought
When the skeletons in my closet clap at the deepest fears
That escape through the filter of my vocal chords
Heartache and pain return with pin-point accuracy
Even when I duck into crevices of repressed emotion
They manage to chew through the stone barrier
Pushing me deeper into the Void
