|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Knights of the Old Republic or “Kotor” is a very interesting game. It is a mix between a 3rd person shooter and a RPG (Roll Playing Game.) Each time you play it, it is different. You start as a soldier on a ship that is under attach by the Sith (Dark Jedi.) You crash land on a planet called Taris. You must traverse all of Taris in order to complete quests in order to get off of Taris. You receive the help of Carth Onasis, the pilot of the ship that crashed. Before you leave though you must rescue Bastila (the Jedi you where guarding on the ship) and escape to a remote Jedi base. If I tell you any more of the story it would ruin the game.
The sound was great. From the hum of your lightsaber, to the sound of footsteps, they got everything right. I think just finding enough sounds to put into the game would take at least one year.
The dialogue was a neat aspect of the game because you get dark and light “points” or in other words you head to the dark or light side depending on what you say, do or even where you go. You must chose your words carefully in order to stay out of trouble. You can talk to just about anyone! The physics are hard to evaluate because you are suppose to be on a totally different planet! Because it is all made up it would be hard to tell what the physics would be like. It is mostly like the physics you see on earth but with little twists like what would a hovercraft do going 600 mph when it goes over a big rock, or wouldn’t a ship going at the speed of light get blown to bits if it hit even a little dust particle? You can probably see my point, but I thought the physics where great for it being a fictional sci-fi game. The graphics were great. They really added to the realism of the game. They where so detailed that you could see your reflection in the wall when you moved. I have to say that they don’t compare to Halo’s graphics but they were the best of any Star Wars game I have ever played. Then there was the value. Even thought this game doesn’t have a multiplayer it never gets old, because each time you play the game is different. You can use two characters from your party of nine to be with you at any part of the game. |

Christian Perspective
I have to say the language was pretty bad for a Star Wars game. They only used the D-word, but they chose to use it when it was completely unnecessary, and it isn’t like one of those games where you can turn the sound down because you need to hear the dialogue. There is some sexual content like skimpy clothing and what not, nothing to bad, and obviously there is a lot of violence, though there is no blood. There is an occasional alcoholic but no drug content. This is a good roll-playing game for a discerning Christian family.
Conclusion | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In conclusion because it has been out for a while Kotor is well worth the 20 dollars you pay because it will keep you busy for a long time (over 40 hours for me!)
