the huggy bear discography:
huggy bear started off with their first live gig supporting heavenly in late 1991. in early 1992 the started putting out homemade four track demos. wiija records released a tape only compilation of these demos. they started playing at bigger venues all around europe and A&R reps started to pester them but they declined them all. they told NUDE records that they wouldn't consider them unless they dropped the band suede.
their first real single was "rubbing the impossible to burst" on wiija in september 1992 and sold out all it's 2000 copies. the next was "kiss curl for the kids' lib guerillas" that christmas. at that time the band was playing with other WIIJA bands. they then released a split with bikini kill in feb. 1993 called "our troubled youth" on catcall records to coincide with the bands' joint tours through england.
in summer of 1993 they did a full out USA tour and realeased "her jazz", "kiss curl", and "don't die". kill rock stars put out the most well known (in the US) huggy bear album "taking the rough with the smooch". they recorded "long distance lovers" for gravity too and went on tour with the boredoms offshoot UFO or die in december of that year.
in 1994 they released "main squeeze" for fellaheen records in australia. they then started a european tour in ireland, france, & sweden but jon could not travel at this time for some reason and the band became a four peice. in november 1994 they released "weaponry listens to love" back in the UK on wiija once again. they toured for that and sometime later the band broke up but all members still went on to other projects within the UK indie scene.
