Ted Magnuson

Ted Magnuson lives in the Pacific Northwest and when not writing, he might be  enjoying the great outdoors, photographing ballroom dancers, or working his day job.
His lifetime achievements include climbing Mt Hood, sleeping in a snow cave (part of being a dad), and bicycling over the Cascade Mountains of Washington State on a tandem bicycle with Nancy. The two of them just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Moses Probe is now available. There are links on this site to purchase the book from Amazon. Ted's latest project 'still in the works,' is a family saga set in the American Midwest. Called The Bouchard Legacy, it is the story of  two families, inheritance, betrayal, addiction and the fate of a business struggling to make a comeback. 1It all began way back when

Ted Magnuson began his writing career fresh out of college. He wrote features and sports news for a small Florida daily newspaper, the Pasco East. His next gig was ‘writing policies,’ as the insurance industry describes the job. His role--Seeing to it that sawmills, lumber yards and woodworkers got reimbursed when the things go up in fire!!!. Yes, that's right--commercial insurance sales. The best part of the job--Ted moved to the Pacific Northwest¾to be where the best trees in the world grow.

Life in the Great Northwest was good. Ted married and became a father. By 1990, with children sleeping nights, Ted came into possession of an IBM display-writer when the underwriting department upgraded to state-of-the-art 286'ers. Wow, talk about troglodytic times. Anyway, Ted was back on the type keys again.

The result? His first go round was  The Moses Probe, a science fiction adventure. In 1992, a shortened version of the story won an award at the Pacific Northwest Writer’s Conference. In 1998, Rutledge Hill Press published Oregon Trivia, a list of 1200 Q & A's Ted compiled on his adopted home. It is now going into its third printing with Thunder Bay Press.

Ted's writings have appeared in The Oregonian, The Fishtrap Anthology, and other publications. He is an avid cyclist and outdoorsman.

           His next?  The Bouchard Legacy.

The story: Paul has earned his inheritance, but Randy owns it.

In 1958 two young boys meet. The young Paul Elser watches his father rebuild Randy's family's business, the once prominent Sunny Day Beverage Company of St. Louis, MO. Daddy Bruce does this by building a customer base among the colored folk who are migrating north to work in the factories.

After college, and a tour of duty as an infantry officer in Vietnam, Paul goes on to follow in his father's footsteps, continuing to build up business for the now burgeoning Sunny Day Beverage. Paul does this on the assumption that one day, it could be him calling the shots at the Bouchard's family business...After all, his father married the heiress. But is ambition, talent and perseverance enough? Paul has stumbled into one tough, ingrown and dysfunctional family. He may have the gumption but the Bouchards and the Allens have the shrewd lawyers. Look for it soon.   146,000 words
