Food
In the wild, hamsters would live on mainly seeds and nut, some green vegetables, and occasionally grubs and insects. However not many hamster owners will be keen on giving their hamster some insects to chew on, but hamster mix bought from any pet shop will be fine, along with some vegetables every day or two. Some of these are:
- apple
- banana
- beansprouts
- broccoli
- cabbage
- carrot
- clover
- cauliflower (leaves and stalk)
- celery
- chicken (cooked)
- cucumber
- dandilion
- egg
- grapes
|
- kiwi fruit
- lettuce (small amounts only, not iceberg)
- nuts
- parsley
- pasta
- peach
- pear
- peas
- plum (not stone)
- potato (cooked)
- rice
- strawberries
- swede
- sweet corn

Never feed your hamster on any citrus fruits; oranges, limes, lemons etc.
A syrian or golden hamster will eat, on average, about a tablespoon of hamster mix, when feeding your hamster on fresh fruit and vegetables make sure to dispose of it before it goes rotten, this is even more important with nuts, as when the rot they can give off toxic fumes.
Always make sure that your hamster has a continous supply of fresh water as the can dehydrate quickly and become very ill and possibly die!
