Learning Earning and Parenting
City and County of Peterborough Ontario Works
Focusing on teen parents by providing financial incentives that will help teens to finish High School. As well as parenting activities so they can break the cycle of dependancy on social assistance and become a better parent.
Learning:
Requires that all participants regularly attend an educational program leading to their High School Diploma.
Earning;
Identifies the opportunities developing employment skills. In hope they will be ready for a job.
Parenting:
Provides teen parents with the parenting skills to become better parents. Activities: Group sessions; Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program; one on one coaching; mutual support networks.
Other supports include: Funding for additional school supplies, school clothing, and educational trips, as well as counselling.
Leap provides incentive for teen parents to graduate High School and complete a minimum or 35 hours of parenting courses. Successful participants choose between a $500 bursary for their own post-secondary education, or $500 to be held in trust for their children's education.
