Georgie: What are you doing here?

Faith: Looking for your little boyfriend. Where is the stud?

Georgie: Why don't you just stay away from Dillon.

Faith: No need to get possessive. I'm just here to see a patient, Mr. Bentley.

Georgie: But that room's restricted -- family only.

Faith: Oh, that's ok, honey. I'm closer than family. I've been in bed with the guy. Hello, darling.

Kyle: You finished?

Maxie: I'm not really that hungry.

Kyle: Oh, all right. Oh -- do you mind?

Maxie: No.

Kyle: Max, you ok?

Maxie: I'm tired, that's it.

Kyle: Hey, come on. I mean, I thought last night was pretty great.

Maxie: It was nice.

Kyle: When we were on the beach, you seemed to think it was a little better than just nice.

Maxie: It was cool, ok?

Kyle: Hey, come on, think about it. We're under the stars --

Maxie: You're right, ok? Being with you was what I needed -- an escape.

Kyle: From what?

Maxie: From myself, mostly.

Kyle: Maxie, I'm trying to follow, but I just don't get it.

Maxie: Forget about it. I'm late for the hospital.

Kyle: Look, see, there's something up. Why don't we hang out here for a while, I'll tell you a bunch of bad jokes, we'll order whatever you want. You'll feel better.

Maxie: I can't, ok?

Georgie: Your room's almost ready, but in the meantime, I'll get you some magazines, ok? All right, just have a seat.

Maxie: I know I'm late, ok. Don't start.

Georgie: It's ok.

Maxie: I took forever to get a table at Kelly's, and I got in at, like, 3:00 this morning.

Georgie: I told Mac you were asleep by 10:00.

Maxie: You covered for me?

Georgie: Forget it.

Maxie: Well, do you want me to start making rounds with the book cart?

Georgie: I can do it. Could you take these magazines to Kate?

Maxie: Yeah. Is she new?

Georgie: Yeah. She just transferred.

Maxie: What's wrong with her?

Georgie: She's waiting for a heart transplant.

Maxie: Hey. You're waiting for a room, huh?

Kate: It was supposed to be ready before I got here.

Maxie: Yeah, there's a lot of waiting around in hospitals. That's why they have people like me. I'm Maxie Jones.

Kate: Kate Saylor.

Maxie: Look, I heard why you're here. Georgie's my sister.

Kate: She shouldn't be telling people my private business.

Maxie: No, she wouldn't. Except I know what you're going through. I had the same surgery, like, 10 years ago. It's -- it's really scary. I mean, I couldn't even pronounce half the things that were wrong with me back then.

Kate: You needed a new heart?

Maxie: Kids don't really understand that stuff, you know? I wasn't going to survive without a transplant. But the thing is, is that everyone's heart is special. I needed one that matched mine.

Kate: That's what i'm waiting for.

Maxie: It's really weird. I mean, the people who love you are so focused on the fact that getting this -- this piece of someone is going to keep you alive. But then you realize that for you to live someone else has to die. Everyone's going to tell you that it's meant to be, that you shouldn't feel guilty. But you will. My heart belonged to my cousin B.J. She got in a car accident, and her brain died, but her heart was still alive. I went into the operating room, and I -- I woke up with b.J.'S heart. She's like a ghost inside of me.

Kate: Do you miss it?

Maxie: What?

Kate: Your own heart.

Maxie: I miss it so much. Sometimes it's just like I don't even know who I am.

Maxie: Look, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, Kate.

Kate: You couldn't be. Look at you. You're so healthy and you're beautiful.

Maxie: The thing is, Kate, it's much better to live than die. The heart that you're going to lose has gotten you this far, but the one you're going to get is just as much a part of you.

Kate: It's so bizarre, talking about body parts like mechanical pieces.

Maxie: It's ok to think that, but it won't feel like you're some monster being put together by doctors, because you're -- you're Kate, just upgraded. There's one more thing that i should tell you.

Kate: What?

Maxie: You're going to feel weird sometime. I mean, you've gone through something that most kids can't connect with. But don't try and defreak yourself by acting like someone you're not, no matter who it will impress.

Georgie: Kate, your room's ready.

Kate: Your sister's pretty great, Georgie.

Georgie: Yeah. I think so, too. Come on, let's get out of here.

Kyle: I heard what you said to that girl, and there's something you need to know. You have a beautiful heart just the way it is. You taught me something today. Maybe some people need to change, like me and Zach and the rest of my stupid crew, but not you. The world deserves you just the way you are.
