Dear Distinguished Alumni,

The 2000-2001 academic year has gotten off to a great start.  We optimistically look forward to reinstating our charter and coming back on campus.  Joe Donnelly is our new President; Ricky McLaughlin, Vice-President; Robert Henry, Treasurer; and Jeremy Vansa, Secretary.  You will have an opportunity to meet all of us at the upcoming 55th  anniversary dinner, discussed later in greater detail.  We have a list of highly ambitious goals for the year, chief among these the reinstatement of the Triniteer’s charter.  To this end, we formally petitioned the University at the end of the last academic year.  Our fifty-page proposal now rests in the hands of administrators.  However, we must first gain the support of the newly formed Greek Council, a collection of representatives from the various social fraternities and sororities on campus.  Ultimately, Pete Neville, Director of Coates University Center, and Dr. Gage Payne, the new Vice-President for Student Affairs will make the final decision.  Both the President and Vice-President of Triniteers have met with these individuals on various occasions this semester to voice our concerns and receive constructive criticism.  The response we have received thus far has been very positive.  We expect this will be an expedient process, and we should have a decision by alumni weekend.

Last year marked the beginning of a new era of Triniteer growth.  Thirteen freshmen became active Triniteers.  Ricky McLaughlin is a member of the Association of Student Representatives as well as the editor of the conservative student publication, The Conscience.  Six of the new actives play football.  Jeremy Boyce is our starting tailback, and Derek Hivnor was recognized as the defensive player of the week after the Tigers’ opening victory against Texas Lutheran University.  Brandon Mahand graduated this summer from the Platoon Leadership Course at Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia.  As you can see, we maintain a very diverse membership and we look forward to its growth.

To ensure our growth we depend upon the support of you, the alumni.  Alumni weekend will be held on Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th of October.  This will be an opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to participate in a reunion of friends and brothers.  The weekend will begin at Bombay Bicycle Club at 12 p.m.  Bombay’s, owned by former Triniteer President, Bill Leighton, is located at the intersection of Mulberry and St. Mary’s just outside of campus.  At 2:30 p.m. the Trinity football team will take on Rhodes College and alumni are encouraged to attend.  At 7:00p.m. there will be a dinner reception in honor of the Triniteers’ 55th anniversary.  The reception will be held at the San Antonio Rivercenter Marriot Hotel.  Dress will be dinner-casual.  After dinner, drinks will be provided at 401 E. Mistletoe, just down St. Mary’s from campus.

Enclosed you will find a Teer Alumni sticker.  The sticker was made possible by the help of our 99-00 Alumnus of the Year, Mark Jenkins.  This is a small token of our appreciation for your support.  Mark continues to contribute to this club and is a constant source of advice.  He has personally paid for the postage for these letters.  Any contributions to the club you make this year will be greatly appreciated and instrumental to the survival of our organization.

We look forward to seeing you and rebuilding our tradition as Trinity University’s greatest brotherhood.  We are proud to say that we have compiled a database of 400 alumni addresses. Please visit our excellent website made possible by Gerald Pyle (Fl. 96’) at www.oocities.com/teerpride for frequent updates or call us at 210-735-8344.  Thank you for your support.
