BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF. Starring - Samuel Le Bihan - Mark Dacascos - Emilie Dequenne - Vince Cassel. Directed by - Christophe Gans. 1764. The beast reached our soil and made it hers. One year later and the beast had slowly sank the region of ‘Gevaudan’ into darkness. The beast has been taking the lives of innocents, only women and children are taken by the animal. Whilst she flees at the sight of men. Sir Gregoire De Fronsac and his aide Mani arrive at the castle of Marquis d’Apcher on a mission from the King of France. They are to investigate and end the murders. Duhamel captain of the forces trying to catch the beast is having no luck in his quest to kill the beast so he arranges the largest hunt in the regions history employing the talents of Gregoire, Mani and a whole host of others. Unsuccessful in their attempts Duhamel and his men are relieved of their duties and Sir Beauterne Master of Arms is sent in to finish this. Beauterne catches and kills a wolf and demands that Gregoire makes this wolf into the beast in order to please the King. Gregoire is informed of a banned book telling a tale of a secret society known as ‘The Brotherhood’. According to the book the beast is a warning to the King – “Heed the power of the lord or suffer apocalypse”. A French title, which is obviously influenced by Asian cinema, Brotherhood of the wolf, is one hell of a movie. The cast are all adept at their trade and put in some great performances, the most notable being that of Samuel Le Bihan - Sir Gregoire , Mark Dacoscos as Mani and Vince Cassel as the intriguing Jean Froncois. The finest point of the film comes when Gregoire finally understands what is going on and wages a violent and swift retribution. This segment sees some highly stylised choreography all played out in the most enjoyable manner. A seriously thought provoking movie BOTW throws in some seriously good scripting with the fast paced martial arts associated with great Kung Fu fliks. Backed up with great camera work and a beautifully balanced soundtrack BOTW is a must for any movie fan and comes highly recommended. Intrigue, conspiracy, betrayal, rape, murder, love, revenge and religion. 10**********stars. Run out and buy this now. CHECK THE TRAILER AND INTERVIEWS HERE. |
