| HEROIC TRIO. Starring - Michelle Yeoh - Maggie Cheung - Anita Mui. Directed by - Johnny To. 18 babies kidnapped in 3 months! Who is doing this dastardly deed and why? Someone is kinapping new born baby boys at an alarming rate, apparently (as we learn later in the movie) to train as killers. Their aim is to conquer the world with the assistance of the invisible robe. The wearer of the robe is The Invisible Woman (Michelle Yeoh). She has been brainwashed in order to procure the babies in order to satisfy her masters evil desires. Wonder Woman (Anita Mui) however has different ideas on the subject of babynapping. Thief Catcher (Maggie Cheung) also steps into the fray with a desire to earn some extra cash as a mercenary for hire. Initially all 3 are on opposing sides and as the title suggests eventually will become the best of friends, and join forces to save the planet from the evil master Long Nails (as we shall call him as no name is ever given for him / her). Personally I wasn't overly impressed with the films plot, however I would still recommend this film just for the excellent fight scenes, especially the hideously manic and evil Kau (Anthony Wong), he relishes in pain and worries not for the loss of several of his own digits. His weapon of choice the allmighty flying guillotine as first seen in Jimmy Wang Yu's Master of the Flying Guillotine. The cinematography and wire work are excellent. My only real gripe about this film is the finale. It was as if they ran out of cash at this point and hired a first year sfx artist to finish the movie. 7*******stars. An average film, but good fun none-the-less. |
