| IRON MONKEY. Starring - Donnie Yen - Yu Rong Gwong - Tsang Sze Man. Directed by - Yuen Woo Ping. The Iron Monkey (Yu Rong Gwong) is a legendary do-gooder who for all his good deeds is constantly hunted by the goverment who enlist Donnie Yen (albeit by holding his son captive) for the task of arresting the Iron Monkey. In return they offer his sons release. However the task before him is not going to be a easy one. The plot and scripting are quite predictable, but I am not recommending this film for it's captivating story line or the fine acting talents on display but for the absolute ferocity of the fight scenes. From the offset you can tell you are about to be bombarded with some of the finest fight scenes you will ever witness, including the awesomely deadly 2 footed head tap intimidation scene, the final fight scene containing two Iron Monkeys and the villain of the peace Kong set above a blazing inferno whilst balancing on 20 foot lengths of timber is simply breathtaking. After watching Iron Monkey again I felt exhilerated. Everything about this movie is quality, the high adrenaline fight scenes are full of colour and depth and are more importantly carried out with tremendous skill. Yuen Woo Ping has captured this epic with ease and the whole thing is pure entertainment from begining to end. If a wire fu movie is to work without looking too tacky then attention to detail is paramount, and in this case nothing has been overlooked, with fabulous costumes and sets, everything fits together perfectly. Everybody who worked on this film needs to take serious credit for producing the benchmark title that every other HK martial arts title should aspire to. This is a must see film and therefore gets a 10**********star rating. |
