KAKASHI (SCARECROW). Starring - Maho Nonami - Kou Sibasaki - Grace Ip - Shunsuke Matsuoka. Directed by - Norio Tsuruta.
Kaoru Yoshikawa arrives to find her brother missing Tsuyoshi missing, her only clue is a letter addressed to Tsuyoshi from an old school friend Izumi Miyamori. The letter was sent from Kuzakota village where Kaoru is to begin her search. As Kaoru approaches the village her car conveniently breaks down in the longest and spookiest tunnel known to man. After abondoning the car she sets off through the tunnel to hear a ghostly laugh. Emerging from the tunnel she meets a strange man loading Kakashi's onto his van for the impending Kakashi festival. Next up is the Twin Peakesque woman with a baby Kakashi in a pram followed swiftly by Sally Cheng formerly seen on missing posters who prmptly disappears. This is one weird village and Kaoru is treated as an outsider and is given little help in her search for her brother, she does however learn that Izumi is in a special clinic, but would be back soon!!! Basically a love/horror story - Kakashi is one of those movies very hard tp generalise, but boy did I enjoy trying. I liked this movie a lot, the story was strong and the characters believable enough for me to make me want them to survive this nightmare. The music score was so subtle it was eerie. The camera work and location settings are also well above average, making this a memorable experience Kakashi is a great movie and definately one of my favourites this year. 9*********stars.
