KUNG POW - ENTER THE FIST
Starring - Stephen Oedekerke - Jennifer Tung - Leo Lee.
Director - Stephen Oedekerke.

The evil Master Pain – also known as ‘Betty’ stumbles across the hiding place of the ‘Chosen one’ and murders his family in front of him. The infant takes on Betty and somehow manages to escape his dreadful Iron claws.
Raised by rodents the chosen one wanders the wilderness in search of the one who stole his life! Constantly assaulted by Betty’s minions the chosen one honed his fighting skills, the more he fought the more his powers grew. In his search he meets Master Tang of the Crane school and immediately falls in love with his daughter Ling who has been appointed to help him in his quest. Revenge fuels his body but little does he know about Betty and the Evil Council.
Steve Oedekerk uses the 1976 Tiger & Crane fists movie and superimposes himself into the flik and adds his own brand of humour to boot, with typically bad 70’s dubbing Oedekerk has produced, directed and starred in his retelling of this good versus evil tale. A spoof in the style of the classic Airplane movies Kung Pow never takes itself seriously and parodies everything that made the old school fliks famous. Oedekerk voices 95% of the dialogue and does it to good effect, with some fantastic one liners.
I have seen on the newsgroups of late people really berating this title; I don’t understand this though as I saw this film for exactly what it was, a comedy. Admittedly it is not the strongest comedy ever captured on camera but Kung Pow is effective and it does what it set out to do.
It is definitely a title worth seeing, it’s longevity though is another question, I’d suggest getting a friend to buy it then borrow it ;)
