| MIRACLES. Starring - Jackie Chan - Anita Mui - Billy Chow. Directed by - Jackie Chan. Kuo Chen Wah (Jackie Chan) arrives in Hong Kong from Canton to find work, down on his luck he buys a rose and is immediately caught up in a power struggle between the two local gangs of 'Tiger' and 'Mr White' for the Ritz nighclub. Mr White - the boss he agrees to help for $100 promptly dies and appoints Kuo Wah as his successor to everyones surprise. Sounds promising, but.... I first watched this movie about 15 years ago and vaguely remember being bored, and this time around was no difference. I actually fell asleep twice. The plot is so boring it is unbelievable, the confusing tale of mistaken identities is just dragged on and on and the truth is never really told. This movie would have been so much better had they just removed the whole story and just left in the fight scenes, which are up to Chan's usual high standard. The choreography and stuntwork are second to none and the factory sequence where Jackie takes on Billy Chow is right up there with his best work. Unfortunately you have to prop open your eyes with match sticks waiting for them. MY advice - rent the movie tape all the fight sequences onto another tape and return the original to the shop. 6******stars. Redeemed only by Chan's fantastic choreography and stuntmen. |
