RUSH HOUR 2. Starring - Jackie Chan - Chris Tucker - Roselyn Sanchez - Zhang Ziyi. Directed by - Brett Ratner. Jemes Carter (Chris Tucker) is on vacation in Hong Kong visiting his friend Lee (Jackie Chan) when a bomblast rips through the US embassy leaving two fatalaties. Initially Lee is assigned to the case only to be pushed out as the US Secret Service get involved. It soon transpires that the two fatalaties were in fact undercover US customs officers. A second bomb explodes at the police station - this time Carter and Lee are the targets. If you want originality then you have come to the wrong place. There is nothing here that you wont have seen before, right down to the homosexual clothes store worker. A typical buddy movie, offering more in action than plot or character development. Unfortunately the action is aimed at a US audience meaning that the action sequences are short, as apparently the Americans have a short attention span, I would love to know who came up with this logic and how the American people feel being labelled with this misconception. Chan, Tucker and Sanchez dissapoint throughout with their laclustre performances, it would have helped if Chan and Sanchez could speak better English. Zhang Ziyi on the other hand is beautifully sadistic and caries an air of evil in her every scene. As usual the Chanesque style outakes that run through the credits are fascinating to watch, but this doesn't exactly say much for the film itself. Extremely forgettable Rush Hour 2 is slightly better than the original but still lacks every thing that makes a decent film. One big point I thought I must mention is that of Jackie Chan's morales. I have seen Chan on many occasions stating that his movies are for everyone. Young, old, black, white etc.. He has mentioned more than once how you never see anyone die in his films and you never ever hear anyone profane either. So why does he do it in RH2. Has Brett Ratner had a part in this? Has the lure of the evil american dollar finally broke him down. Some may see this as a petty point, maybe so but I just believe there is no place for this in a JC movie. 5*****stars. Watch this just for the stunning Zhang Ziyi and nothing else. |
