SAVIOUR OF THE SOUL 2.
Starring - Andy Lau - Rosamund Kwan - Shirley Kwan - Corey Yuen.
Director - Corey Yuen / David Lai.

Ching Yan has dreamed of the same woman every night for 28 years, he awakes one morning to discover an advertisement-seeking people to recover the Essence of Air. The reward is ten million dollars! Ching sees this as an ideal opportunity for him to take the money and seek out his dream lover.
Ching is assisted on his quest by The Doctor an eccentric inventor and his godson Tim who has elevated Ching to godlike status. The Doctor explains to Ching and Tim how the Essence of Air is actually a mystical air that makes the recipient immortal and unable to undergo any harm. It can only be found inside the Virgin’s Ice on the mystical Virgin Mountain. It later transpires that the Virgin’s Ice is in actuality Ching’s dream lover. Unfortunately for him though before they can meet Ching is poisoned by the King of Evil who in fact placed the advertisement to find the Virgins Ice in the first place. Ching dies but is resurrected by his dream lover when she gives him the Essence. This causes one huge problem as only one person can carry the Essence and she too will soon perish after passing her gift on to Ching.
I am not quite sure but I get the feeling that this movie was released during the Chinese New year as it is one of those family films that is supposed to appeal to everyone, unfortunately it didn’t appeal to me.
The biggest problem is that it feels too much like a children’s film that would always offer a happy ending. I don’t mind happy endings I just would rather wait to the end of the film before I knew what the outcome would be. Saviour of the Soul 2 is a very weak manga in motion that tries to hide its weaknesses behind colourful scenery and some outlandish gags that only a ten-year-old would find funny. The plot is straightforward enough but the tie in with Ching’s dreamlover is just bizarre and over complicates a below average script. I could pull the films continuity to pieces I just don’t think its worth the time or effort. The characters are poor, the cast is poor, the script is poor the garish sets are poor, but!!! (What there’s a good point)? The fight choreography is good fun with some adequate wirework and adept action scenes. The extremely Red evil jesters work very well and offer a distraction from the poor film surrounding it.
I watched the first movie some years ago but I cannot remember anywhere (apart from the cast) where the two films tie together. My advice with this is to watch the original movie then pretend there was never a sequel made.
