THE LUCKY GUY.
Starring - Ng Man Tat - Stephen Chiao - Eric Kot - Daniel Chan - Shu Qi
Sammi Cheng - Kristy Yang.
Director - Lee Kit Chee.

Four basic plots combine to make the movie and each of them centre around the ‘Lucky coffee shop’
Mr. Li the owner of the ‘Lucky coffee shop’ is about to lose his shop after running it for forty years. The lease is about to expire and Flirty Li is raising the rent by twenty times. If he can’t get the money together then Li is out.
Surrounding the main plot are three different romantic sub plots, the first being that of the helpful but naïve Fook who has taken a shine to Fanny. Fook however has never dated before and is taking advice from Siu, who is also entangled, in a romantic web of deceit. Known as the ‘Prince of egg tarts’ Sui deceives and connives his way through many hearts but his own heart lies with Candy, an old school mate who he had humiliated in years gone by.
Finally we have Shin Chan the son of Li. He meets Fon Fon and she immediately sets about deceiving Shin and Li, but when Shin discovers she is the missing daughter of a wealthy real estate business he too sets about exploiting her.
This is a wonderfully warm story with adequate camerawork, it doesn’t break any barriers as far as filmmaking is concerned but it does deliver a warm and endearing story with likeable characters. This is the type of movie you watch with your girlfriend after a candlelit dinner, whilst snuggled on the sofa together before leading them… oops sorry I was getting carried away there ;)
As I was saying don’t expect any car chases or full on swordfights because you wont get it, just a delightful story that is passionately acted and delivered. A breath of fresh air from the over elaborate MTV style movies. Pure simple fun.
