Zion Canyon:
Treasure of the Gods

Zion Canyon: Treasure of the Gods is a palm-sweating cliff-hanger that delves into the mysterious, narrow, vertical canyons and sheer cliffs of Utah.
Never before have audiences seen such beauty and drama on the giant screen. From the red rock mesas and spectacular geological formations of Zion National Park and the great Southwest to Native American history and contemporary climbers challenging the towering cliffs, every detail of Zion National Park comes to life in this magnificent film. In addition to Zion Canyon, audiences will be treated to scenes of the surrounding lands of the Southwest, including Bryce Canyon, Canyon De Chelly, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Arches, and Canyonlands. Zion Canyon: Treasure of the Gods is one of the most dynamic and colorful films made for the giant screen.

The film offers audiences an unparalleled opportunity to explore the hidden beauties, the history, and the legends of Zion Canyon and the mystic Southwest. Although the human elements have been presented for purposes of history and legend, the real "treasure" of this 38minute production is Zion Canyon itself. Zion National Park was set aside forp;and is best known forp;its magnificent natural and scenic features. The storyline is intercut with spectacular aerial sequences, allowing the viewer to experience the park and the great monuments of other areas of the Southwest from a hawk's eye-view.

The film, produced by Douglas Memmott and Academy Award winning director Kieth Merrill of World Cinemax Productions, Inc., has been called the definitive interpretation of Zion National Park and the surrounding canyonlands of Utah. Memmott and Merrill are the same team responsible for production of the world's most successful destination IMAX film, Grand Canyon: The Hidden Secrets.

Merrill, who has produced and directed five other IMAX films, says that Zion Canyon: Treasure of The Gods is the most logistically difficult film he has ever made and he believes it is the most spectacular. "As many of our shots reveal, the beauty and drama of Zion Canyon is unequaled. We carted cameras and equipment into places only half a dozen climbers and canyoneers have ever been."

Zion Canyon: Treasure of the Gods explores history and legend while focusing on the mystical beauty of Zion Canyon, Utah and other areas of the Southwest. Beginning with the Anasazi Indians, the film chronicles an ancient treasure as circumstances see it changing hands through the Paiutes, Spanish conquistadors and modern explorers. The treasure finally finds a resting place in a narrow canyon, guarded by the spirit of Sinewava, ancient god of the canyon.

The film takes audiences on an exploration of the secret recesses of Zion's vertical canyons. Along the way, theater-goers experience the danger of a flash flood and hang with climbers from towers of stone 2,000 feet high. One scene in particular, depicting two intrepid rock climbers perched high above the rocky canyon floor, is sure to put audiences on the edges of their seats. Upon losing her grip, world class climber Nancy Feagin must rely on her rope, harness and climbing partner to bring her back to the safety of their narrow cliff ledge.
