That's not much but it's a start. OK, now some other stuff I know about him. He has never been in a major film, let alone as a star of one. That earns him big respect for me, he played Legolas without one drop of experience. He was at college, and by the time he graduated, he had landed the part of Legolas in the film Lord of the Rings (the JRR Tolkien classic- READ IT). Also, if you guys were wondering why Orlando (Orli to his friends) has short hair in his interviews, there are a couple reasons. One, he had to shave it for the LOTR wig. Also, he's in Black Hawk Down (with JOSH HARTNETT- both are in that movie? YES!). So I can't WAIT to see him in that.
Filmography:
2001- The Fellowship of the Ring
2002- Black Hawk Down
2002- The Two Towers
2003- The Return of the King
2003- Ned Kelly
2003- Pirates of the Caribbean
So basically Legolas here, he has reached my top five stars. Guy stars, that are extremely hot. Like please let me marry him hot, like, good god how did you create that perfect specimen hot, like, if-only-I was-25-and-drop-dead-gorgeous-so-he-would-marry-me hot. Okay, enough talk. Here are some pics.
Orlando plays Legolas Greenleaf, the elf member of the Fellowship. He is the eyes and ears of the group, not counting his extreme archery skills (Did anyone catch when he punched a guy with an arrow and then immediately shot someone else with the same one?) But the rest of the characters are interesting as well. Here is the run down on the fellowship:
Frodo- Hobbit, played by Elijah Wood
Sam- Hobbit, Sean Astin
Aragorn- man/ranger/heir to throne, Viggo Mortensen
Gimli- dwarf, John Rhys-Davies
Boromir- man, Sean Bean
Gandalf- wizard, Sir Ian McKellen
Pippin- hobbit, Billy Boyd
Merry- hobbit, Dominic Monaghan
The books are in a three book Series, The Fellowship of the Ring is basically about the 9 getting together, only to be seperated. The Two Towers is about the defeat of Sauramon, and getting to Mordor. The third is about trying to finally get rid of the Ring. Legolas is in all three, of course. There is also the prequel, no Legolas, called the Hobbit about Bilbo, Frodo's uncle, finding the ring from Gollum (who I also love...my preciousss).
Quotes:
(on salary) "I don't care much about the money at all. Frankly, if I get the chance to kiss someone in a movie, they wouldn't need to pay me at all."
On his character Legolas and the way Legolas moves: "Legolas doesn't speak a lot - he prefers to let his actions speak for him. Legolas' moves are smooth and elegant, like a cat. You know how cats can jump and land steadily on their paws? That's what I'm trying to do. There's a strength in that, but it's very balletic. It's also bloody hard to do without falling over!"
"It's all very surreal. I've had two very fantastic experiences. In Lord of the Rings and in Black Hawk Down. I feel very lucky. I'm sort of doubly excited."
"I'm rather accident-prone, I have to admit. I've broken my back, my ribs, my nose, both my legs, my arm, my wrist, a finger and a toe and cracked my skull three times."
On how he got the part in Black Hawk Down - "My character breaks his back, and I had mentioned I had done that when I was up for the part. Who knows why one actor gets a job and another doesn't? I think it was just good timing that I happened to be there and I had had the experience - I mean, I was lucky."
"I broke my back. I fell out of a window... some friends had a roof terrace on the landing before their apartment, and I fell off the drain pipe. It gave way, actually, and I fell three floors. I was told I might not walk again. So, for about four days,I was contemplating that as a serious part of reality. Then they operated, and I walked out of the hospital in about twelve days."
"Vig used to call me 'elf boy', and I'd call him 'filthy human'. As an Elf, I never got a scratch on me, never got dirty. And Vig would come out with blood and sweat all over him. And he'd say to me, 'Oh, go manicure your nails."
On his 2002 Empire Award: "I think my mum will have [my award] in pride of place somewhere beside my grandmother on the mantelpiece."
"We have these digs at each other. Viggo will go on about Elves and how they're always doing their nails and brushing their long, blonde hair, and being all prissy. And I just say: Well, at least I'm going to live forever! Got that? LIVE FOREVER!"
I was suggesting to Peter yesterday he should insert some love interest for Gandalf in a later one. He suggested Galadriel... I said, no, I was thinking more of someone like Legolas. (Sir Ian McKellen)
On Rings, if you were short you were cast as a Hobbit, and if you were tall you were cast as a human, and if you were kind of weird and mousy looking, you were cast as an elf. (Orlando on the casting of LOTR)
I'll take it. It sounds good to me. (Orlando on being called The Sexy Elf)
