Shockwave: The Gut Wrencher

Brett's View

"Sweet, they finally have the Shockwave up and running," I blurted enthusiastically.

Signs and posters everywhere pointed the way to the entrance.  On our way, we passed by the numerous ice cream and candy stands.  The smell of fresh cotton candy lingered in my senses.

Looking at John I licked my lips and said, "Dude, we're definitely stopping by here later."

While standing in line, I contemplated ways that we could make this first time ride more exciting.

"Dude, for the ultimate thrill, we could ride in the front seat," I said daringly.

"Why don't we just stick to the middle seats this time" I responded, "we can thrill ourselves the second time around."

Upon reaching the loading platform, I peered over at the line for the front car.  The line was already fifteen people deep.  It wouldn't be worth the wait, considering almost all the other lines were only four or five people deep.

As we were sitting in the train car, listening to the monotone voice of the ride operator, I dared John, "I bet you an ice cream cone that you can't keep both hands in the air the whole ride."

"Deal," John said affirmatively.

As we rode up the incline my excitement increased steadily.  John, on the other, didn't seem as thrilled.

"Well," I thought, "I just might get an ice cream cone out of the deal."

I was right.  The first moment our train dipped sharply downward John's hands snapped down to tightly grip the metal security bar.  I, on the other hand, kept my arms raised high, unwilling to allow this coaster to beat me.  As we came tearing around the corner, a sudden flash blinded my eyes. From the moment the ride began, I had kept a smile across my face, knowing full well that a picture of us would be waiting at the end of the ride.

"Whew," our train halted, just rolling slowly into the loading platform.

"Hey John...," I began to say, "Wow, you're not looking so hot."

"Yeah, I know" he responded faintly, "I'm gonna puke any minute."

Once security bars had been released, John shot over to the ledge.  Let's just say that the sight of his breakfast coming back out wasn't quite the same as I had remembered it looking that morning.
