08.21.04 USA's 'Evil' Won't Last to Second Season By Brian Ford Sullivan
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- USA is pulling the plug on its freshman drama "Touching Evil," as a network spokesman confirmed earlier this week the cable channel will not renew the series for a second season.

The news comes as USA is experiencing record series numbers from its summer entry "The 4.400" as well as strong showings by regulars "The Dead Zone" and "Monk."

"Evil" debuted in March on Friday nights to the tune of 3.37 million viewers, falling to 2.3 million on average by the following month. A last ditch effort to relaunch the series on Mondays at 10:00/9:00c didn't ignite any ratings sparks either.

Bruce Willis, Arnold Rifkin, Allen Hughes, Albert Hughes, Robert Palm and Antony Root were the executive producers of "Evil."

As for USA's other originals, "The 4.400" closed its five-week run on Sunday with 6.1 million viewers tuning in, including a 2.3 rating/6 share among adults 18-49, while lead-out "The Dead Zone" continued to fare well, earning 4.6 million viewers and a 2.0 rating/6 share in adults 18-49.

Friday mainstay "Monk" also remained a powerhouse this past weekend, earning 5.8 million viewers and a 1.7 rating/6 share among adults 18-49, both season highs for the series.

04.17.04 Ratings: Touching Evil - Good and Bad
After opening to a less-than-spectacular 3.37 million total viewers on March 12, the midseason drama has averaged an even worse 2.3 million viewers in the three weeks since. Nevertheless, the series is up 122% in year-to-year time slot comparisons and has seen its audience grow from 776,000 to 1.21 million among adults 18-49 and 1.078 million to 1.311 million among adults 25-54 between its third and fourth episodes. Less encouraging however is the fact those year-to-year comparisons are against repeats of "Monk."

04.02.04 Touching Evil Season Finale
The midseason drama is currently set to wrap its first season on Friday, June 11 at 10:00/9:00c according to published schedules.

03.17.04 Touching Evil's Ratings
3.4 million viewers tuned into the two-hour opener to USA's latest original series, including a 1.5 rating/4 share in adults 25-54 and a 1.1/3 in adults 18-49. Those scores represent a more-than-100% increase over the previous year's time period average. "Evil" also built on lead-in "Law & Order: S.V.U." (1.1/3 in 25-54, 0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.1 million overall) in all categories. Nevertheless, "Evil's" audience was well behind the premieres of such recent originals as "The Dead Zone" (6.4 million on 6/16/02), "Peacemakers" (5.2 million on 7/30/03) and "Monk" (4.8 million on 7/12/02) however said debuts came during the broadcast networks' off-season. Overall, "Evil" was the most-watched program in adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 among all cable networks in its second hour, but fell short of TNT's broadcast premiere of "Men in Black" for its opening hour. In terms of overall audience, the two-hour premiere was the second most-watched program on cable on Friday, behind only the network premiere of "Toy Story 2" on the Disney Channel (4.1 million).

02.06.04 Touching Evil spin off of Touching Evil? - UPDATED
FYI: Apparently, Jeffrey Donovan's Touching Evil is a spin off of an old British 'hit series'. The original Touching Evil had three seasons consisting of six episodes. Robson Green protrayed Dave Creegan in the British series. The show premise seems a bit different in the regard that Jeffrey's Creegan has survived a near death experience after being shot in the head, leaving him a bit different than he was before.
