Malice Mizer
This band was the first JRock band I fell in love with. With a style that is undeniable and a sound that is unclassifiable they set the foundation for everything I grew to expect of Japanese rock artists. Each of the three lead singers (Tetsu, Gackt, Klaha) has something unique to offer in terms of vocal style and energy given to the group. The creativity and expressiveness of this group makes them timeless.
Memoire DX
1) De Memoire
2) Kioku to Sora
3) E-gekai ni Sasagu
4) Gogo no Sasayaki
5) Miwaku no ROOMA
6) Seraph
7) Barokku
Tetsu carried vocals on this one. He's got a unique sound that people
usually either love or hate. While I personally feel he's a great
vocalist, I found that I liked his vocals for Zigzo much better.
Favorite tracks :: Barokku, Kioku to Sora, De Memoire.
Voyage ~san retour~
1) Yami no Kanata he~
2) Transylvania
3) Tsuioko no Kakera
4) Premier Amour
5) Itsuwari no Musette
6) N.p.s. N.g.s.
7) Claire ~tsuki no shirabe~
8) Shi no Butou
9) ~Zencho~
The first installment in the Gackt era of Malice Mizer. Yeah, *that*
Gackt. His influence (not to mention his looks) helped shove Malice Mizer
into the public eye.
Favorite Tracks :: Transylvania, N.p.s. N.g.s., Zencho.
Merveilles
1) ~De Merveilles
2) Syunikiss ~nido me no aitou~
3) Veru Eru ~kuhaku no toki no nakade~
4) ILLUMINATI
5) Brise
6) Yuuge ~sugisarishi kaze to tomoni~
7) Au Revoir
8) Ju Te Veux
9) S-CONSCIOUS
10) Le Ciel
11) Gekka no Yasoukyoku
12) Bois de Merveilles
Malice Mizer's one and only majors release. Gackt's abrupt decision to
leave the group after this album shook things up. The death of Kami soon
after reduced the group to three members and an uncertain future.
Favorite Tracks :: (where can I start?) It's easier to just say I love the
entire damned album. However, the best of the best goes to :: ILLUMINATI
(no other song screams 'fuck me' like this one does, kids!), Gekka no Yasoukyoku
(an adorable story-song), and Le Ciel (if the video doesn't make you cry, you
have no heart).
Bara
no Seidou
1) Bara ni irodorareta akui to higeki no makuake
2) Seinaru koku [toki] eien no inori
3) Kyomu no naka de no yuugi
4) Kagami no butou genwaku no yoru
5) Mayonaka ni kawashita yakusoku
6) Chimamirareta kajitsu
7) Chikasuimyaku no meikyuu
8) Hakai no Hate
9) Shiroi hada ni kuruai to kanashimi no wamai [rondo]
10) Sakai no chi to bara
Welcome to the unofficial Klaha era and the reversion to Malice Mizer as an
indies band. With only three members (Közi, Yu~ki, Mana) left they
discarded everything that Malice Mizer had been and created an album unlike any
other. Klaha was brought in as a guest vocalist for the album. It is
the album that I feel best represents what Malice Mizer set out to achieve and
that captures the essence of what they are. The album is a
classically and gothically influenced masterpiece that seamlessly flows from one
track to another.
Favorite Tracks :: Chimamirareta Kajitsu, Sakai no Chi to Bara, Mayonaka ni
Kawashita Yakusoku.
Gardenia
Beast of Blood
Garnet
The three Klaha-era singles that marked the end of Malice Mizer. After Bara no Seidou there were no more albums. It seems that the band pushed to find a new direction and simply was unable to find footing in the new environment. In the year that Klaha served as the lead singer, the band also released a movie entitled Bara no Konrei. It was Malice Mizer's take on the story of Dracula, done entirely without dialogue and using the music from Bara no Seidou (with the exception of the track Zencho, from Merveilles). When Garnet was released at the end of November 2001 it was less than two weeks later - on 11 December 2001 - that Malice Mizer called it quits. They went on "hiatus." While there is hope that the band will get back together, Klaha is currently pursuing a solo career and has stated that he will not return to Malice Mizer. Mana is currently working on his project called Moi Dix Mois. Közi has joined Haruhiko Ash's project Eve of Destiny and they have been touring in Europe. He also just released a solo book/cd project. Yu~ki, it seems, has dropped off the face of the earth.
