In the series, the overworked and underpaid residents are the heroes of County General Memorial Hospital as they make life-and-death decisions daily. The residents include:

Dr. Mark Greene, a senior attending physician with a promising future whose job cost him his marriage
Dr. Doug Ross (who left the series last season but is still worth a mention!), a charming, womanising pediatrician.
Dr. Peter Benton, an intense, self-assured surgeon
Dr. John Carter, who has two years under his belt as an M.D.
Carol Hathaway, a compassionate nurse who is still trying to sort out her personal life after a suicide attempt
HIV-positive physician's assistant Jeanie Boulet
Dr. Kerry Weaver, a tough and determined attending physician who often rubs her colleagues the wrong way
Dr. Elizabeth Corday, a dedicated surgeon from Great Britain.
Lucy Knight, a fourth-year medical student

Joining the cast this series is Dr Luca Kovac, a Croatian physician who moonlights in the emergency room and Dr Cleo Finch, a second-year resident in emergency medicine and pediatrics.
