Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, after his parents divorced, Matthew Perry became a top-ranked junior tennis player in Canada as he was growing up. However, after moving to Los Angeles at the age of 15 to live with his father, actor John Bennett Perry, he became even more interested in acting.

Upon graduating from high school, Matthew intended to enroll at the University of Southern California. But when he was offered a leading role on the television series Boys Will Be Boys, he seized the opportunity to begin his acting career. His other series credits include regular roles on Home Free and Sydney, as well as a recurring part on Growing Pains. He also guest-starred on such series as Who's the Boss?, The Tracey Ullman Show, Empty Nest, The John Larroquette Show and Beverly Hills 90210.

His television movies include Deadly Relations, Call Me Anna and Dance 'til Dawn. Among his feature films are Fools Rush In, A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, She's Out of Control, and Parallel Lives. Matthew also co-starred with Chris Farley in the buddy comedy Almost Heroes, released last May. Most recently, Matthew spent part of his summer hiatus in Toronto, filming a starring role opposite Neve Campbell in the romantic comedy Three to Tango.

In addition to acting, Matthew enjoys writing and sold his first pilot, Maxwell's House, to Universal Television prior to being cast on Friends. His other interests include playing ice hockey and softball. Matthew lives in Los Angeles. His birthday is August 19th.
