From the Bridge
by Becky Norris
Greetings from the commander! I have terrific news that I want to share with everyone--in case you haven't heard, the Fearless has officially launched. I got the paperwork over the Thanksgiving holiday, and maybe that was an interesting twist of fate. Last year, the Thanksgiving holiday tore the Galileo apart, and the phoenix of that never-to-be shuttle, the Fearless, launches over that same holiday a year later. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
Okay, now on to Christmas party time. For anyone who wasn't able to make the meeting last month, the Fearless Christmas party will be held on Friday, December 16 from 6-10PM at St. Elizabeth's Church in Odessa. Everyone who attends should bring a gift ($10 limit), and please feel free to bring food as well. This year's theme is a potluck dinner--if you don't know what to bring, just call one of the officers. Or, if you can't cook, we'll need drinks, ice, cups, and other stuff like that. We have so much to celebrate this year, so I hope the whole crew can attend this very special party.
Also, check out the projects that the shuttle has going on over the next few months. This is an opportunity for us to help some people who maybe don't have much going for them, and it's a great way to reaffirm the kindness of our communities. If anyone has suggestions for other ways that the shuttle can make a difference in the community, just let us know. This is an important part of our mission, and one that can really very simple to fulfill.
It was great to see everyone who was able to make the opening night of STAR TREK GENERATIONS on November 18th. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you really need to mark it on your calendar, especially all you Data fans. I'm sure this will be a topic of discussion for many months to come, and just about the time we stop talking about it, the videotapes will hit the stores and it will start all over again.
Just so everyone knows, I have been emancipated from my cast and crutches. My doctor set me free on Tuesday, November 29 and I have been walking non-stop since then. Unfortunately, my foot, which has been virtually immobilized for six weeks, is not quite sure what to make of having contact with the floor again--it is very stiff and a little tender. Now I'm counting the days until I can run and jump and do aerobics again.
