Maybe it's the golden sunsets or the sparkling ocean that we are shown
from the moment the credits roll or the sexy stars we ogle at in every
episode, but we just can't get enough of Home and Away! The programme isn't just another Australian soap as it could be billed, and it's not just a chance to dream about long days sipping cherry cola at the diner. Home and Away is an addiction. The soap opened with the formula it still withholds today: Pippa Fletcher/Ross (nee King) moving to Summer Bay Caravan park with her husband extensive foster family in tow. In those days the kids answered to the names of Frank, Carly, Steven, Sally, Lynne and "Milko" - Sally's imaginary friend. But visit the bay these days and you'll be meeting the likes of Shannon, Sam, Tiegan, Sally (yes the same Sally!) and Christopher. The faces may have changed but the quality of the soap hasn't. Stories vary considerably in the soap. One day the bay maybe struck by an earthquake or a flash flood, the next Alf may be stuck on which brown shirt to wear to the go fishing in. But no matter what the story we stay convinced by the characters and glued to the sun soaked television screens. The only original cast members left may be Kate Ritchie, Judy Nunn, Ray Meagher and Norman Coburn but the realistic way that characters move in and out of the small fishing bay (well maybe falling off a cliff wasn't so subtle) keeps the viewers happy and content with the soap and leaves us in no doubt that somewhere there is a Summer Bay. Statistics Home & Away began in 1988. The show was first shown in Australia at the beginning of 1988. Since then it has been screening every week night for half an hour.
