A soap about the spirit of good neighbours is bound to be a successful
one as bosses at Grundy Television discovered when they came up with the winning
formula for this Melbourne-based soap. The soap opened much the same as it stands today - a cul-de-sac made up of down-to-earth Australian families and friends. Over the 11 years Neighbours has been on screen the dramas acted on screen have varied in size and scale. From the disappearance of the family dog to the tragic deaths of loved ones Neighbours has kept us viewers gripped from the beginning . Based mainly in a sunny suburban close the soap interacts the Neighbours with each other with sexual, explosive and dramatic effects. From the shocking affair of Brad & Lauren to the bitching fights between Annalise & Gaby, the Neighbours show us they can give as good as they get. The one surviving head of Ramsey Street, Helen Daniels keeps the street in order and dishes out much needed advice to any waif and stray with a problem to share. The soap produced arguably the most successful romance story in soap, the long-running love story of Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) and Charlene Mitchell (Kylie Minogue). The love affair came to its hugely-watched climax as the idolised couple walked down the aisle together and melted the hearts of every viewer across the globe... Neighbours doesn't promise to be an "oscar"-winning piece of television nor a particularly intense viewing experience, but it provides a huge audience with a daily dose of true Aussie release from the world around them. Statistics Neighbours first hit Australian Television screens on the 18th of March, 1985. In October, 1986, Neighbours was first screened in the UK and was an instant hit with viewers. Neighbours has since been sold to 49 countries and is reported to be watched worldwide by at least 80 million people. Neighbours is broadcast in 49 countries worldwide, including :
